Kirk hammett vs Dave Mustaine

i find Kirk to be humble...

he's a fantastic player, even though some comments i heard was "piece of sh*t".. but i don care. It's up to your personal preference though.

Kirk is one of my favourites cause i love his solo in Fade to Black and Harvester of Sorrow. And he does use the wah wah extensively, but listen to live version of the song entitled "Melbourne" by him...you can find it in youtube.

It was in Rock in Rio concert. Watch that part, and you might change your opinion of him. It's really beautiful that solo even though its simple. 8)

I think since he's so good, he's got the right to be cocky. IMHO, if you're good, you can be arrogant, because you've earned the right. You'll be an ass but at least its not unjustified

Kinda prefer Dave Mustaine... He's a much more technical and melodic player.

more technical and melodic? That is very opiniated and highly debatable. I find the more melodic and tasteful solos by Megadeth tend to be played by Marty Friedman rather than Mustaine.

I think Dave is more technical than Kirk, he shreds faster but he tends to be quite pentatonic and chromatic. Both players are very pentatonic based. However I like Kirk's feel in solos. Stuff like "One" and "Sanitarium".

Kirk does write songs, he has songwriting credits from Ride the Lightning onwards. Master of Puppets too i think.

the melodic influences in megadeth are brought about by friedman. if you noticed, the more melodic albums of megadeth are friedman era and later.

Yes my friend, i totally agree, you just brought across the idea i was trying to bring out perfectly.

Marty has very interesting musical ideas, like middle eastern and japanese scales? He made it fit into a thrash metal band still. Kudos to him!

malmsteen.. heh

Side topic, but whats with the hate against malmsteen?

I remember somewhere in the early 90s in an issue of Guitar World.. Malmsteen came out to slam every single one of my fave guitarist.. and he said that the only guy that could bend in tune other than himself was Gary Moore but Moore to him was way too boring.. hahahaha..

Never really like Malmsteen after that article..

But then again I saw him live in Melbourne about 10 years ago.. and I really dug all the guitar throwing and spinning and stuff.. so cool.. something that I'd never do myself.. heh

Oh yah.. I prefer James in Metallilca.. He's the only one with musicality imo...And I too love that Nothing Else Matters' Solo..

haha throwing and spinning? you should watch Steve Vai's Live at Astoria. That fella is crazy, he throws guitars up in the air and catches them like nobody's buisness, and he even spins the guitar around his neck at the end of the first song, Shy Boy in a totally careless and carefree fashion, something that even malmsteem would kill to do.

Haha and you missed out one person besides James. Cliff was the most musical among the 4 actually, he had classical training and influences which he taught the band, like counterpoint and harmony. One very good example of Cliff's application of musical theory which he taught and influenced the band with would be the song "Orion". Too bad he's dead, and it was quite obvious Metallica's musical direction took a change for the worse after the Black Album.

RIP Cliff

well st anger didnt work out that well most of us thought.. as the band themself's said it was a tough time for them..

I saw an interview couple of days back and james and kirk were talking about the latest album which should be released next year 2008. They seemed to be very happy about the album, the vibes were good.

and KIRK said.. 'Yes there are solos all over the place'

Lets see how it goes...

yeah you're justified to be an ass if u're good but that also makes people justified to hate you.
