what is the brand and model of your keyboard?

what is the thing you want to transfer?

yamaha PSRe303.I would like to trasfer music from mine com, as for the headphones thing i still can plug it in!! and i knw that that is the usb MIDI cable .

You probably need to buy the adapter for the headphone jack cause probably your headphones are those mini-jack kind yeah? Look around in electronics/hardware shops..

For the midi interface you can either get a usb one like the yamaha ux-16 which is abt $140 from yamaha.. saw it at $125 ground floor of sim lim square tho. There are cheaper ones from m-audio and some other brands but I'm not familiar with the pricing. Or you can be a cheapo like me and just get one of the much cheaper midi to gameport cables, but this requires you to have a soundcard with the gameport input.

Cheers..

M-audio 1x1 USB midi interface will suffice your needs. Should be less than $100. USB cable connects to you PC. Midi out of interface plugs to midi in of keyboard.

If you want to do sequencing ("recording" notes into midi - in layman terms), then you'll want to connect midi out of keyboard into midi in of the interface as well. You'll need a software for that and you need to make sure your PSR "local" is turn off - otherwise you'll hear 2 notes (echoing).

I guess you just want to upload midi files into your PSR. Then just follow the first connection above.

I have a psr-e403, wat i did was connect my keyboard to my laptop using a usb-6pin firewire cable.

Faberglass, a midi cable is cheap. Probably cost you a few dollars, depending on the length and the quality (nowadays, they come in gold-plated). But you don't need a midi cable (which is basically 6 pins on both ends of the cable). You need a midi interface, which will cost slightly more.

faberglass, there are 2 things to note.

1. recording audio - this is like using a tape recorder / mp3 recorder to record someone talking. basically, it is recording sound + performance.

2. recording midi - this is using computer/sequencer to record the sequence of one's performance. this is recording performance only.

you should find out more about midi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_Instrument_Digital_Interface

i took a look at your keyboard and understand that there is a USB port to connect to the computer. is this the cable you are looking for?

James, the link you provided is the PSR E403 (which is what l0u5y has). Faberglass has the PSR E303 which does not have a USB port.

:?: what do you mean by 'transfer' stuff to your keyboard? It shouldnt be an available function unless it has a floppy disk drive or USB port.

About your headphones, is there even a headphone jack on your keyboard? If so, take note of its size. It could be a 1/4" (less common) or 1/8" plug. So you'll need to buy a headphone with the right plug size.
