i have the ds-1 ultra. damn its mainstay for long long long time

Very different. The SD1 is more like a smooth, organic booster, which beefs up your tone, yet remains ridiculously transparent. While the BD2 is also transparent, but much more gritty, and more adgressive. I'd think of it this way:

DS-1 = young punk with angst
BD-2 = Career confident adult who likes to play blues
SD-1 = Lao Hiao with balls and classic rock memories
