Just wondering if anybody wanna be my friend...

 First things first, I don´t have much friends in school cause their interests and mine aren´t the same. Well...I like J-rock stuff, especially Dir en Grey. A chinese group called Silver Ash is kinda cool too. My guitar skills are under BEGINNER level but I feel like joining a band...but none of my guitar-playing friends wanna form a band ´cause they think I´m too immature. I wanna learn bass but that´s hard to find a teacher who would give one-to-one lesson for a resonable price. I know how to play a little bit of the bass if I´m looking at TAB instead... It´s hard to join a band when you´re a girl right? Well, I´m one and I´m 14 this year...I think maybe I´m just like the saying ´cannot walk want to learn how to fly´...<sigh> I´m hoping that by joining a band, someone would teach me or help me to improve my guitar skills... 8)

no its even easier if ur a girl, just dont be too picky..

try putting up an ad, i´m sure there´ll be replies. if not, i know of a very good bass player who teaches.

It isn´t hard for gals to join bands as far as I know, Haha... it could make things a lot easier in some cases. The best bet is to find someone with similar or close influences with you, like they all like a particular genre that you like and stuff. Ermmm.... the fact that you´re 14 isn´t gonna help much, coz you´re sec3 (i think) next year right? Workloads gonna be much more.... so that might be a problem. Haha... i´m 16 this yr going to jc. When I was in sec3, my band and I didn´t really care about our studies and gigged all year round, so we practically screwed our exams.

Haha... i´m glad I pulled thru the prelims with 12 pts... phew...

Meisharpe, you can try the ads at www.luthermusic.com. Look under the music instructions or something. Try not to go for some free bass/guitar mentoring thingy that is for girls only cause it might be a scam. No free lunch in the world heh..

I´d say go for real guitar lessons. Group lessons would be more applicable to you if you wana meet new friends and hang out with them. There are many places offering lessons so juz keep a lookout.

I´m in the ´You´re The One´ guitar course thingy and...I don´t really find it fun there. The guitar chords...songs and stuff they teach are kinda way too easy for me. I learn from my dad and he has a song book at home which I practices at times... it´s those oldies songs...cooler I think. The course I went was about $10 per lesson? Couldn´t remember much, anyway, it was only for 3 weeks during this year´s June holidays. It was pratically like boooooooriiiiiing...

Well, let´s see...I would be in Sec. 3 next year and I´m in the express arts stream...not much subject to cope with. There isn´t any art lesson at all next year. Man! I regret not putting in more effort in my studies. Shoot! I think I only put in a 5% effort or something. My dad´s nagging me not to learn bass or electric guitar cause need to buy the equipments while my mum´s nagging me not to be absent during lessons next year...<sigh> but I do wanna learn bass...<whine>I´m interested~~~

Well… let’s see now, when I was in school >10yrs ago, my pass time was the guitar. I have nothing else but the guitar in hand after clearing homeworks & other school chores. I’m not academically inclined so I treat school as a rite of passage, more so for a paper qualification acquisition in order to survive the rat race here.

Anyway, the trick is to show your parents that you can handle the school junk & your music well. My mum was relieved that I didn’t hang out with friends @ discos/ shopping malls in my spare time. I have my guitar to thank for that. So when I asked for certain investments in my music, she duly obliged.

I’m self-taught when it comes to music/ guitar. I do have friends who play the instrument but all they can really do is play pop, radio-friendly music & strum chords during campfires. I keep well away from these chaps, simply bacause I’m not that kinda player. I’m an idea manifester, I like to transfer ideas to the guitar & gets elated easily if it’s successful. I’d listen to players & replicate their techniques but the ideas are all mine. I can remember being on top of the world after figuring out the X-Men tune (not the current X-Men Evolution) & played it repeatedly throughout the night…

Yeah maybe I´ll try that too, coping with my school work and music...My mum says that if I were to put in more effort in my studies, I could do really well, but I never try...

I play my guitar with my dad so he can coach me with it, but that would mostly be weekends. Play by myself? My dog...so annoying...he barks...

Maybe I should try mimicking my fav. group guitarists?

Anyway, anybody willing to tell me their fav. bands/groups?

Mine is Dir en Grey, X-Japan(forever), Laputa, Glay...maybe more to come...all J-pop...only one fromChina! Silver Ash! Cool! 3 members like Dir en Grey!!!

oops...maybe I talk too much...

Look, you gotta earn the trust from your folks. The trust that you´ll manage your time properly between leisure and studies. I guess the only way to do it is to prove it to them. I had a hard time persuading my mom to let me continue my guitar lessons and performing during exam time. She almost barred me from my gig!!! Anyway, phew... haha....

I play everyday now since its the hols, 4 hrs everyday? Yup... lotsa work to be done. I´m coming out with a new demo CD too... i´ll let you guys know when its done yah?

Oh yea... btw, you guys heard of a band called The Darkness? Man... they rock!!!!! its re-living the 70s classic rock days man!!!

superb repulse! super! post some sound clips for us when ur demos done

icon_biggrin.gif

Very very nice riffs, solos and very very funny band! Great Vids. EXTREMELY nice marshall Les Paul tone man! supa!

It´s soooo much better then Radio-rock stuffs you hear on everyday radio man. 3 Cheers for The Darkness again!

Any idea how to get their tone without a Gibson nor a Marshall stack?
icon_cool.gif

Hee Hee, would really appreciate if anyone can help me get close to that

Yup, The Darkness uses Marshall JCM800 stack (if I´m not wrong) and Gibson Les Paul Customs. Its pretty hard to nail the tone though without the combination. Probably a tubescreamer coz I think its pretty close to the Marshall tone, or of course the Guv´nor 2 by Marshall. Its kinda hard to get the exact same JCM800 head now.

i play guitar and i know people who´s into guitar and bass. we would hang around and just play guitar and relax. sort of a guitar gathering. we´re a mixed group, there´s malay, chinese, chinese-indian, so on. we´re not racist. age also varies in our group. some are 19, me im 17. i dont mind if you were to join the group.

Is joining a band time consuming? I´m more worried about time...if I join, I think I´m only allowed to play for the band during June and December holidays...
