Just imagine for a moment that in a hypothetical situation that everyone on this forum were to..

1) "Search" their queries

2) Google it, if it ain't on this forum


There wouldnt be anymore new posts on..

"Questions on.."
"Pls recommend.."
"Hi where can I get.."
"Hi, where is the location for.."
"Hi, what is.. "
"Hi, can someone tell me the difference between.."

This forum would die!

Heh... No matter how many stickies you put up there, trust me, THERE Would, Should and WILL be lots of posts on "Can you recommend me a distortion pedal etc".

Take utimate-guitar for example, its one of the oldest, most popular websites.. But get into their forums and you will find atleast 100 posts a day on the above mentioned topics.

Heck, thats one of the reasons of having a forum.. Might as well make it a website if you want everything to be stickied up..

Just me 0.02 $ :)

There is a difference between the following 3 questions:

1) Hi, where can I get XXX and how much?
2) What's the best YYY?
3) Hi, I tried this ZZZ as written. Why isn't this working?

The 3rd question is a question posed when people have sufficiently done their homework and still meet into problems.

Sure, I agree there'll be less posts. But I also believe that we need QUALITY posts.

Sure. Maybe I'm wrong. Who knows. Where I see it, I try to do what I believe. YMMV.

I mean,we should cut some slack for the kiddies sometimes,they usually really don't know any shit and have no one to turn too...so I think we shouldn't really go all angry when they ask qns like that..

they usually come to this forum to know abit more..then I guess they would move on to explore...

best advice I received here: "it is based your preference,please go take a look *somewhere somewhere*"

yeah,I realised that we could at least give a few locations as to where to find good equipment...
 
I answered this on another thread already. Contrary to what you think, a lot of people actually do explore before talking, as evidenced from post counts.

And I don't know how to phrase this one better: use your common sense! If you bought your mp3 player, and you go to the shop/call the warranty service when it's spoilt, obviously you do the same for your guitar! Some of these questions truly border on utter ridiculousness.

And there are really good questions from newbies, that are no different from other newbies also. Why is this so? And why is it that we have a culture of extreme reliance in this forum, when other websites such as SD forums and TGP, have much more of the 3rd question asked?



I know what you mean, but so? Problem still exists. There's really really no point going into who is right and who is wrong. Make some suggestions on the FAQ and get James to work on the technical side of the issue.

look on the forum. a very good example just popped up. the where got sell guitars ar?

i mean, dammit theres a thread beside it on where certain products can be found and even if he doesnt know those brands he could always search the net for the webpages of the shop above and see what stuff they actually have but no, he needs the shit shovelled into his face. damn, i wonder how he even found this damned site to begin with..
 
It's a national campaign, you mean you guys dunno what were our govt promoting? Uniquely Singapore, only in local forum like soft that we can find such dependancy...ironically using the internet to ask on the forum than using the internet to find the information, which was its intended purpose.

Follow me say UNIQUELY SINGAPORE!
 
Hey penta........relax. These crap qns have always been coming and will only keep on coming. Theres really not much we can do abt it. No matter how much we complain, it'll always be the same. I mean, these noobs, as some call them do not know a single thing abt forums. They dun realize the stupidity of their qns. The only way we can hope to remedy the situation is by educating these ppl. Whining isn't gonna help, no offence to penta.
