personal fav:
Dir en grey
Sex Machineguns
B'z
Ayumi Hamasaki

ok i'm old school... hahaa...

haha it's tough for ppl to accept something their not accustomed to... but jrock is rather popular la. considering the fact that most singaporeans can't understand a word they are saying... jrock's more popular than most other foreign languages imo. ROCK ON! :D

you can listen and appreciate jrock but i dobut it's gonna be pleasant performing it. you can't exactly write originals either right?

uh... actually...

i rekon i came out with a few probs...

- no one understand the language
- no one (or rather few) appreciate it
- its like stepping into uncharted waters

i dunno...personally, i dun quite understand the language, because of my scant vocabulary in jappo, but its the tune i kinda like...strange no?

its like the same for a fren of mine... he listens kpop and jpop, does not know the language, likes the tune...relies heavily on romanji nad translations and shit to understand, but likes the tune all the same..

ah...but its nice no.?

seriously, some of their songs rock, like those from Dir en grey and HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR

well, music is music, maybe ppl who listne to j-rock like the music thats played even though they know shit about the lyrics.

anyway some j-rock/metal stuff are alot more melodic than european/american stuff so its really up to the listener's preferences.

i dont quite agree with "no one understand the language "

in my horrible opinion i dont think language matter, the music and the tune does matter.

would you choose over a sucky lyrics with a nice tunes or a well-written lyrics with an unaudible tune?

yoshiki once said in an interview: "music is the language that everyone in the world understands, it need no translation"

jrock not popular coz..no one in this forum expose into jrock that much, i use to hear jrock... aiyo no need to say.. got hundreds of jrock songs right from indies to mainstream. it is just not well discussed here.. thats all.

you can visit to singaporejrocksociety or singapore jrock forum .. to discuss more about jrock...

anw, we can talk abt jrock too..

p/s: only few jrock bands are good, most of them have problem balancing their visual appearance and the music.

dont you think most of the jrock out there have the same vocal tone? damn boring man.. only a few big names are good ones.

jrock are known for their bassist creativity in creating bass lines.. i really love jrock basslines... especially laruku..

jrock : mix genre of the music in the world, it can be too jazzy it can be to ska like..

You are not wrong in saying that. But still...

Will you choose a nice song with a sweet melody but do not know a single bit what the singer is singing? I don't listen to it because I don't even understand the language. The lyrics tells the main story, if I can't even understand it, how to appreciate the entire concept behind the piece of creation? Maybe the tune is nice... but I probably will cast it aside after two or three plays.

Like the track First Love... I listen to it for a while and cast it aside, because I don't understand. It's nice, but simply don't understand what she is singing in Japanese.

my answer is yes, i hear bollywood, french, raggaeton and xjapan without knowing every single words. i hear kurenai, rose of pain, x, silent jealousy more than hundreds or thousands time? but definately more than 3times since year 2000, till now i dont understand what the lyric is really about...

i always hear daddy yankee, i even bought daddy yankee album... but i dont know what GASOLINA, BARRION FINA means or LO QUE PASO PASO means.. what i know is the song is nice and i listen to it :)

but i am definately sure no one wants to hear a song with a super wonderfull god written lyric with an inaudible music, the most.. people make a poems out of it

cheers :)

Your question is :

would you choose over a sucky lyrics with a nice tunes or a well-written lyrics with an unaudible tune?

and im answering to that. read: my answer is .......

if i answer your speaking generally, i dont quite agree too, the flow of the music is more important than the meaning of the lyrics. unless if you're saying that the lyrics get along with the music, then its different, but regarding the understanding/meaning of the lyric.. still i dont think so.

malay housewife's loves bollywood so much, they dont even know what the lyric is all about

i bet if you ask them only 2 out of 10 knows what KUCH KUCH HOTA HE means, but 10 out of 10 can sing the song. you get what i mean?

those malay clubbers, they LOVE raggaeton so much, but they dont even know what sabrita's means and where is tequila came from

those chinese teens, they like ayumi, shinhwa, the trax, what else? do all of them understand every songs they hear? no?
we talking about the majorities rite?

That is why I always say ... alot of people don't even know what they are doing. Just like Hip Hop ... it's only a cultural trend ... but even when ppl tag along with that trend ... does it means they truly appreciate it? No!

It's only wanting to be seen as a part of the "cool-dom"...
