Jason Lollar, the pickup artist.

Pickup artiste?

Hi guys!

I thought you meant "pick up" as in picking up girls! haha.

Reading the article now. Seymour, watch out! There's a tone god waiting to kick ass!

Cheers mate,
TF

A very interesting interview with Jason Lollar who makes some of the finest pickups around:

I've always wanted to try some Lollars. I've been hearing so much good stuff about them. They seem to be fantastic pups... But hard to come by in SG, and lately, after finding a set of singles I like so much, I've only got ONE set left to acquire for my tone hunt, and they're not Lollars.

I think there's got to be a limit to what we do or spend on GAS. Once we get our tone fix, I think there needs to be limits.

That said, if some kind soul would want to help me try these Lollars by sponsoring me, do let me know! Heh...

theres an out of print book written by him on how to make your own pickup, its interesting to read if anyone is into him. It can be found from the net, somehow...

same here man, i've been wanting to try his pickups too. i've only heard good things about them. if i could i'll probably go for the blackface strat pups.

the interview is pretty interesting. v down to earth guy too, doesnt try to hype up the stuff he sells.

Lollar pickups are not new, he's been making them for ages. I got his P90's for my Gibson LP studio to replace the stock pickups. They are really rather unique, not exactly vintage sounding, but very subtle, even and balanced with a character all of their own.

I swapped them out last weekend for Wolfetones, but I rather like the Lollars... wish I had another P90 routed LP to put it on :)

i've had a set of his blackface strat pups, tele traditionals and specials, plus 50s p90s and standard p90 winds. i've also tried another blues guy's edwards es335 which had low wind imperials on em.
all are good! i personally think that his p90s and humbuckers are great. as for single coils, ther's alot of competition. i settled for don mares in my strat in the end for my strat. it has nice microphonics that make soloing pretty vocal :)
check out my youtube channel. my red es-135 plays thru a pro junior and a tweed bandmaster and has the lollar 50s p90s in em.
