Jamming Studio; Drum Facilities.

Tried the Pearl Elims at Fourtones once. Really smooth. I've been contemplating switching my Iron Cobras for the Elims for a long time. Hmmm...

One thing we gotta understand about drumkits in jamming studios. The poor studio owners have to bear the heartache of watching inconsiderate drummers thrashing their kits day-in day-out. Inevitably, the really good equipment gets busted. I've seen the nice AAX and Istanbul cymbals cracked by people at Guitar77 studio. Real heartpain man.

If you're the studio owner, what would you do? The most cost effective way is to get cheaper equipment as replacements. That's the reality of running a studio. Everyone needs to take good care of studio equipment so that we all get nice gear to use! :D

My humble lil setup at Soundmix studio.

All the cymbals, except the AA cymbals, Paiste hats and ride (the logo has worn off but still sounds great!), are mine. Love the cosy and homely feeling of jamming there :D

Woah Mel!! That's a nice and comfy setup there bro. Maybe one day i shld come by and try ur AAX Stage Crash. :P

As what Mel have said, as drummers, its not fair to said that studios have bad drumsets/cymbals/, etc.

The amount of money invested/spent for the maintenance is not cheap and its heart-wrenching to see broken cymbals, damage cymbal stands, malfunction hihat stands, etc.

As for me, i use my own cymbals, pedals andsnare whenever i jam and my typical setup wld be all Sabians(as usual):

i hate comfy studios. you play for 10% of the time and slack 90%

hate destructos i have no idea what models mine, i lost the piece of paper that came with it with the model number. im gonna get a flying dragon soon.

Don't hate the studio. . U only have yourself to blame if u spend 10% of your time dat u pay to the studio owner dats only worthwhile.

Check the reflection on the cymbals!!

Get endorsment from Sabian lah shred5. You even wear their tshirt some more

Your Sabian collection is huge now. It must take you quite a bit of time to set up whenever you jam man. Wanna try your Pearl MSX snare one day too :D

wow shred5, thats really an impressive collection of sabians.... my collection so far is quite pathetic haha... and mel, i thought Soundmix had aax's provided? what happened to them? stolen ah?

and one thing i dont quite like about the cheaper room in fourtones is that the guitar and bass amp is set rite behind the drum set, sometimes i feel my ribcage vibrate... but other than that, its a very very good studio

Maybe someone broke the AAX at Soundmix? I'm not sure *shrugs* I felt the heartpain when Darren told me how someone broke a ride in the studio. Man, how can anyone crack a ride just like that!!??

The AAs and Handhammered crashes are still in good condition though :D

Setting the guitar amps just behind the drummer is actually a good set up. It's the kinda set up you'll get at gigs. That can help you get used to gig set ups when you jam.

gd

i cant blame y most studios only uses Cymbals that are not so high end, cos if the users afford to crack it or break it, they can afford to pay the studio owners for it. all the high end cymbals are meant for personal use only. so if u break it, u got only yourself to blame.

Whoa... 8O
The springs in Shred's Elims are super loose!!!
I ported over the default DW springs to my yamaha pedals and still think they're not hard enough.

Maybe some group did some emo-screamo thang and the drummer was too emotional to control his strength.

Joshie>> don't hate me, go down to yamaha (Yamaha at Plaza Sing should have stock) and try out the pedal for at least 3-5minutes. Impulse buy never works in drumming. Take your time to contemplate on whether you like the feel or not.
Try out Pearl's Eliminators, Tama's Iron Cobras, DW's 5002s or 9002s and even Axis while you're at it.
It's a serious investment that can stick with you and last longer than your computer.

yea i tried them, i feel its good for 200+dollars haha at least for me la. which pedal do you prefer? (mind that pedal has no s) i might consider getting.

Woah!

I dont understand how come you guys dare to spend so much on cymbals man. Some of the cymbals I like dont even have a brand, like the 6 inch splash from Swee Lee cost like 17.50 but if you are a hard hitter, its gonna break.

I like a $60 paiste 101 hi hats for funk, Jimmy Lee sold me that one. That one, together with some tight steel snare....foooooo....the bounce my god. Other than that, sabians generally have a sweet feel to it, not particular about whether its AA or AAx or HHX or ABCDX. But one crash that I recently got into is a Zildjian medium 20" crash....it generally just plays behind the beat. I have no idea why. You can actually feel the attack comes after the beat so it forces me to not play in front ( Too much funk drumming does that to you). Why is this turning into a drum forum??????

Oh yes, some guy did break a crash ride. an 18" inch crash ride from zildjian. Yeah I was pissed off, the reason why I bought it cos...well who the hell breaks a crash ride man? Or breaks anything for the matter of fact. So I told him " I think you better concentrate on your studies" Well thats me straight up no bullshit no sugar coating, the way I was taught...ol' school man.

But to all praisers of the studios drum kit, my gratitude and appreciation for keeping it alive.

CHECK YOUR POSTURES U DRUMMERS!!

D

i used to think why not buy those 60dollar cymbals, what does it matter? its cheap! but i realised the sound quality is very different, even the whole feel changes. i tried the HHX, haha i think i wont buy cymbals yet! but im still aiming for my samatyas! i agree the crash is no ttoo my liking but i shall get a obang just to get the ride haha.

But how the hell they broke the Jamming studio's Cymbal?!!! This really frustrates me when I enter the Jamming studio with the cymbal all cracked...

Esp there was once i entered a jamming studio in Penisular..Damn.. I was wondering how the hell they cracked the bell on the cymbal man!

Also, are there really such heavy hitters in the world? Fancy breaking metal with their hands with a small wooden weapon call the drumsticks?

Are they playing drums or destroying?

Do you break a single cymbal b4?

Just curious

Z'

^^ not true...ive seen cymbals tat last for ages...

just came back from soundmix...i was like "WTF WHO BROKE THE ZYN (at east i think its zyn?) SPLASH!!!..."

thats the second splash i've seen that broke...both along the bell...the other 1 was the B8 at fourtones.

nope...never broke a single cymbal in my life..not even drumsticks ( although my current 1 is chipping ) ... im not looking forward to breaking anything actually...

weird how some people think breaking cymbals shows their strength...haiz... :(

only broke a stick and twice drum skin...not at studio though..skin from my sec sch and stick of my own...lol!! when u r young u sure have some strength...lol!!

lol

for me.. i whacked the crash cymbal too hard and my k customs came crashing down, hitting my 13k drumset. basket.. it left some scratches on the toms and hit the secondary snare (steve ferrone).. malu siah.. :S

price-wise i say the big room at fourtones is worth it. 16 bucks an hour. the iron cobras are in that room as well. www.fourtonesmusic.com

but usually you have to book at least a week in advance if you want to get your preferred time!

lol it does show their strength... and their lack of technique too... if u hit a cymbal correctly it shdnt break that ezily... unless its some scrap metall like lazer, carlos or even pearl and tama stock cymbals, which 5 yr olds can break too
