Are there such things? Picks made of bone or ivory or something similar?

Where are they available in dear old Singapore?

I've always wanted to catch that show, but still have not.

No, I just want to see how much of a tonal difference these picks will make.

don't waste your time with the Pick of Destiny.. stupid show, complete waste of money lol.. only funny part is the rock off with the devil

 Films with Jack Black appeal to me these days. Hes funny in School of Rock, but still good in King Kong. etc etc. anyways. Ivory pick. shouldnt make a huge diff, shud it?

Hey Crawldaddy - hows it going? long time no see.

Hi all

Actually the Bone n Horn pick Crawldaddy is mentioning here are from John Pearse. They have a few options for their sarod picks.
Cowbone, Buffalo Horn, Rosewood, Ebony.

They've difference in the tone actually. But the main thing is, they look damn pretty to me :D They've received lots of good comments from many fellow guitarist and performing artist :)

Com'on down and see it for yourself. Who knows? you might just find your pick of destiny from us! :D

Wah liew! Ivory picks? Joo vant to kill an elephant for a pick? Goodness...

That's why you wait for elephants to naturally die before you remove their tusks and use them... and that's why there are legal and illegal ivory.

Thanks for the replies, I was away in camp as usual.

No worries about killing elephants or anything, Bone or horn will do just fine, I'm just looking for some alternatives to plastic and metal.

Vincent,
I'll definitely drop by asap, to check out the picks and the Lyric!

Lastly, what's the rough price range of bone/horn picks?

Cheers all.

Hi Phil,

Yeah I've been using the bone picks from Maestro too.
U can hear the difference in tone.
But the big turn off is the price.. $12 for one pick!!!

Vincent, any chance Maestro is reducing the price or cheaper price for bulk orders?

Union..

Paul Danial uses a bone pick, but hell why not just stick to plastic and spare those rhinos. =\

Plastic picks can be filed to personal size and shapes too!

Qkumba, its not the shape and size... its the tone. :)

Yes, picks make a difference... unless you play with high output pickups into very high gain pedals/amps...then maybe not.

My choice these days are the awe-in-one picks, the ones made of delrin or something. I like the tone to my ears... pity they wear so fast.

AIO are rather nice too, I got a couple of them quite a while back. I especially like the bigger, black ones.

Again, geez, and I'll say it again: you can use dead animal bones. In fact, if you don't mind the stigma, even dead human bones can be used as bone picks. Just that it irks people psychologically to use their own kind as tools.

anyway just go easy on the ivory/bone picks...

the more u buy... it will generate more demand...

then one day... supply wont be enuff...

then poor dumbo gets killed

The bones used for John Pearse are made of camel bone. So it's nt issue.
I've never seen ivory but ebony and buffalo yes.
Do they Tusq picks around in S'pore ? It's synthetic bones and are used widely by Tay;or guitars for their saddles and nut.
