Is there a need to dress to define what you listen?

My answer to this topic is definitely no. Honestly, i listen to metal but i wear specs... A metalhead doesn't wear specs anyway.. But yeah... Walk down the streets of Orchard and there, you'll see more than 10 posers... What do i mean by that? They dress wrongly... Try to be some emo crap and destroy what punk is. Come on... Get real. Are you gonna dress like that in 10 years time when you're a businessman walking along Orchard? Be who you really are.

"People who need to adapt their lives to fit a music trend are dysfunctional and underconfident."

well dood, it depends on people's perspectives.
for me, i say no. its quite impossible to keep wearing black in this hot humid country of ours.

True. It's one's persepective... Glad that you know how stupid it can be... And the worst thing people get from is is being called a poser...Haha!

How about people performing at gigs, should they dress like what they perform?

Let's say this band performs metal but they dress like completely normal dudes on stage. What's your view?

You're putting up an attack on me huh? Think of it this way, i shall rephrase then... There's nothing wrong to it. But how would you see some poser ruining it for you? Calling themselves a metalhead when they wear like punks? And there's nothing wrong with dressing as a normal dude.

No laa, it's not an attack :p I'm just wondering what people would think of a band that doesn't bother dressing up. Think t-shirt and jeans for a metal band, that kinda thing. What would you think of a band like that? Just asking for some opinion :p

Well, for normal everyday life, dressing up in thick leather jackets and metal studs and blahblah -insert fashion accessory here-, is just too mafan! Who'd take you seriously?

SOrry for misunderstanding... But this is what forums are... POINTING out your own opinions... Share it, accept it... Argue with it...

Hahaha......for me to a certain extent is yes.....If u so into the music, no harm wearing to show ur liking to the music....but if they like make up, like eye shadows, paint their nail, piercing like until there is no more place to pierce, etc, i mean too over do it.....den theres someting wrong somewhere

Can i quote you? Erm i just did that... This guy knows what he's talking about...
Yes, for a certain extent and not overly dressed...

EMOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
just had to say it. anyway, my opinion is, i really find it funny when some people go to metal gigs where people really dress up like a metalhead and those people will dress like punk rockers. spike their hair and SKATE SHOES. i dont get the skate shoes part.. haha. dont flame me. its just MY OPINION!

well, personally, i find it weird when ppl say they should dress on stage according to the music they play...i mean, in the end, like a guitarists tone, its all up to personal preferrence...some ppl juz like looking different when they go on stage, its like, a whole personality overhaul, others are comfortable the way they are, be it tshirts n jeans, or singlets and sandles...lolz...as for the general going out, if some guy or girl wants to go all freaky and wear an all black outfit complete with leather jacket and piercings, but all means go ahead...u are ure own person afterall...hell, if u wanna over do it...then go ahead...but, tt's all juz my take on this....

A metalhead wears a metal helmet..or gets a metal head medically/artificially planted (coz no being is born with a metal head).

Every kind of music has some sort of history. From tht history, comes culture. From culture, there is the birth of fashion & trends. There r those tht listen to music just for leisure/entertainment purposes, & there r others tht enjoy the lifestyle of (a) particular music genre(s). This lifestyle harbours both the knowledgeable & the uninformed (aka posers). This post might concern the latter & is definitely not worth a look by the former.

Dressing up for ur music is just a show of appreciation & activeness. By dressing up, u portray an image of being a 'follower'. Psychologically, u distinguish urself frm the rest (except those in the same culture). Indirectly, it acts as a uniform. U take pride in ur music & its lifestyle. U feel the need to make friends w/ more ur-kind-of-ppl; u dress up in order to catch their attention. Some dress up just for the sake of it, coz u cant go nude or u'd end up in jail. Teenage times r the best..coz u have so much time. But:

Are you gonna dress like that in 10 years time when you're a businessman walking along Orchard?
sure i will..if its the correct occasion.

So ultimately, its a question of how much time u want to put into this music lifestyle of urs. Some a hell lotta time, & some no time.

They dress wrongly...
how can u define 'dressing correctly' when u do not evn know the intentions of tht person? and mind u..there is no fixed way to 'dress metal' (except putting on trash cans & such).

How about people performing at gigs, should they dress like what they perform?
Most of u dont get it..dressing up matters only to a certain extent. That is, u have to b visually acceptable. If not, there will b negative electrons shooting at u frm the crowd. Again, there is no law. What applies is just basic life rule: u nvr dress in such a way tht u urself will feel uncomfortable.

But how would you see some poser ruining it for you? Calling themselves a metalhead when they wear like punks?
Most of those r the uninformed. Nothing can b done. The world wouldnt let us go free if we were to take em out w/ my flamethrower. Bt there r such things like 'personality'.

I'm just wondering what people would think of a band that doesn't bother dressing up.
Depends on the event. If its a major one, then u might consider dressing up. Bt for gigs & all, they'r happening every time, slippers & shorts r alright. Bt like i said, "visually acceptable". When some1 goes to a formal meeting, he/she has to dress up accordingly, no?

Well, for normal everyday life, dressing up in thick leather jackets and metal studs and blahblah -insert fashion accessory here-, is just too mafan!
right. bt if ur a fashion devotee, no1 can tell u how to dress & there wouldnt b any fashion industry. Also, modelling wouldnt b as interesting.

It is not wrong to dress up. It is not wrong to dress wrongly. It is wrong to b obsessed. It is wrong to dress for others.

Pantera did it and look where it got them...

I wear what I want, and thats usually dimebag style pants, blank band shirts, black wrist thingos, metallica wristband, sometimes a couple of chains on my pants.

I feel comfortable, i feel it expresses my personality. Music is a huge fucking deal in my life and I show that off to the world.

gutturalpiss: +111111 VERY well said man

I basically wear a Metal T-shirt, shorts and slippers whenever i go to town.. Only when i feel the need to dress up, i wear my jeans along. BUT hey, dude i wear skate shoes. I wear it on stage too!! Haha. I know it looks weird but i used to skate and i cant afford a new pair of shoes. But it doenst matter how you dress up really. Just make sure your not a stupid poser who wears eyeliner and mascara wearing a Bleeding through shirt or A7x shirt going to a Metal METAL and not core shit gig.

Then again, what you define posers?

Posers = people who knows their shit and still pretend to be like someone else?

And what makes you think those are "posers"?

They may think YOU are the posers.

Everyone is exposed to different things and yes, some wants to be like them. But aren't you doing the same? You wanna do it your style and show to people what metal is all about. On the other hand, I listen to some metal bands who dresses up like a punk, correct what, technically speaking in MUSIC point of view is still METAL. Now tell me, who's right and who's wrong?

Please don't tell me there is a fixed way to dress up for music genres as I feel it is bs. And also, it is really funny when people disses about other people on how they dress. Who is the REAL poser? Questions questions questionsssss.

This is lamb of god. If you've never heard of their stuffs, just know they're called LOG, (maybe take away the short hair) do they look like a typical indie band dressing? Heh stereotype!

Anyway, let's just don't think so much. Teck Deck slippers, Teck Deck Shirt, Teck Deck Pants and we piak piak our slippers all the way to gigs next time. Metal FTW!

maybe they skate?
but yeah, i dislike poseurs.

ahhh yes skate shoes. i ride & i used to skate. sometimes i wear these shoes. shoes r shoes. they protect ur feet frm debris & dirt.

My view is that yes, to a certain extent, the way you dress MIGHT reflect on your music sense. No need to elaborate, you guys should know this as well as/better than me.

For myself though, as long as you're true to your genre, there's no need to excessively flaunt the apparel. I listen to metal too, but ppl can hardly tell from my looks and dressing. Oh, I do like punk, alternative, indie etc. Does that mean I have to wear black shirts and red ties? Enough said.
