Hey all,

I got a squier californian series strat guitar. I checked the serial number and i found out that its a sticker. I thought that the serial number is suppose to be printed. So i was wondering whether mines a fake. Furthermore, it says "squier by fender STRAT" on the headstock. Shouldn't it be STRATOCASTER instead of STRAT? The color is also not the standard range. Its kinda like dark red. Pls enlightent me here. Thks!

No, Squier strats say 'Strat' on the headstock. You're thinking of Fenders. Also, colour isn't an accurate judge of whether it's a fake, it could be discontinued for all you know. About the sticker, I don't know, never owned a Squier.

You're fine, don't worry.

The sticker for serial is usually found for instruments made in indonesia or china.
Strat is a trademarked by fender, so is Tele. And yes the california series should say strat, instead of stratocaster.

For the dark red, it should be candy cola. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Enjoy your guitar.

Some squiers say stratocaster, depending on model.

The ratio is pretty even actually, but it doesn't matter. fender and its subsidiaries and brands own both the strat and stratocaster trademarks.

Who the hell would want to fake a squier?

EDIT: Sorry if that came across as mean or anything but, squier ain't exactly that worth faking, you know what I mean?

Contrary, assuming you would be a counterfeit goods manufacturer.

Think about buyer behaviour, does a $200 fender stratocaster seem realistic?
How about a $200 squier stratocaster?

An obvious choice is to counterfeit the more expensive genuine product, but counterfeiting a less expensive product will make yours blend in easier in the market place.

Since they are already selling counterfeit fender, gibson and pretty much every mass produced brands and selling them for $200, the cost to them is the same to produce a counterfeit squier and selling it for $200.

If the intention is to cheat, and it is apparent that they are because of their labeling of the products, it is much easier to pass off a counterfeit squier compared to one from the parent brand.

I'm not saying that they're doing it, but if you think about it. Why not? Also note, $200 is theoretical example. I'm just trying to explain the concept.

Note: I do not support counterfeiting. By which I mean producing and marketing a product based on another with the intention of deceiving the customer into thinking it is the genuine product, regardless of price.
