Is bassist is a left behind band player nowadays??

STRANGE PHENOMENON coz bassist by nature normally have larger, longer, heavier and more menancing looking "equiptment" than their guitar counterparts .... ;)

I donno ...size does matter?

Bass player here, but too noob for people to take in...oh well......:???:

thats alright. you'll get better. it's fun if you join a band with a few mates who are new to their instruments and play for about a year. you'll see how much youve improved. very satisfying experience, if you ask me. maturing together as a band.

Thing about bass is most people start off learning the guitar first.
There was a point in time where i considered wanting to learn the bass.
But then already spent so much on guitar equipment.

Really feel like sayang to switch to bass and focus in on it. Beside haven't master the e guitar
yet. Wonder whether theres any others who felt the same?

well thats me...

haha

been playing the guitar for like since 13....now im 21...

got 4 guitar somemore yt i become a bassist...

swich ah haha

kinda find the bass mor einteresting..

i seem to like the bass better than guitar( even though im a guitarist)
i started with the bass. then my friends forced me to play the guitar.
so yeah. all i know is. without the bass music is so empty..

unless your like that band called "Beast Petrify"
guitarist and drummer, yet they sound so full!

its one thing recreating the fullness in the studio and another thing doing it live. apparently rammstein has 2 guitarists playing the same parts so that they will sound better live

As a bassist who started out on the guitar, I disagree that its abt being guitarist reject. I tried guitar first and learnt some basics there but never really got into it.. Then I ended up playing bass and was quickly in love!

I believe most bassists don't get the credit because their role in an average rock band is kind of like glue. They make the drums and guitars stick together.
Another analogy i like to use is foundations. The bass provides the foundations for the band to build from.

In both cases they are things that are not very visible, yet if you don't have them or they are lousy then everything falls apart.

Can you imagine Plainsunset without the counter melodies from Nizam's bass. Not many people would notice at first, but if you replace them with root notes the songs get pretty flat sounding..

Or imagine GSE without the bass thumping away.... It just doesn't work.

First up to the OP, I'm not sure why you feel there are few bassists. As you can see, we are legion! Also vocal and passionate and proud of our craft.

Second, I find some of the comments conveyed to the posters here from their bandmates worrying. I worry because what does it say about a band that makes music that they see the role of bass (I'm pretty sure the people who say this also think the same about other instruments) as marginal or "just a support instrument"? I'm not sure if they think or care about the music they are making at all in the first place.

Can't win 'em all. So, I say, answer these critics by playing. Play your heart out. Because as Paganified said it best, bass is the heartbeat of the music. EDIT: and yes, drums are the pulse. Bassists and drummers, yall gotta love each other
