instrument destruction

This band called "Recover" actually threw all their guitars and drums into a BIG pit and jumped into them! LOL!
And the bassist from green day buys second hand mex fenders to smash and repair and smash again...
It would be fun to smash a kapok guitar.

Smashing your guitar is like killing someone. Someone who has been with you all this time, Someone who has served you faithfully and unfailingly. Someone who helped you achieved your dream. Sure, this thing doesen't have any feelings, But if you can bring yourself to destroy something which brought you so much joy and glory, Its equivilant to killing a brother.

Guitars have rights too!!!!

I couldn't agree more. This is simply the best put example of it.

i dunno ... i guess when they smash guitars on stage after performance

its kinda like the final overture.

the finale of the show. its the summation of all your work , blood sweat tears suffering ...

its like a cumulation of everything thats worked against you and you finally achieve reaching the top.

like u channel all ya energy towards it and finally its done.

but i m against smashing guitars ( my bass got one nick and i get depressed for a week ... if i smashed it i think i would hang myself)

sometimes you get caught up in the heat of the moment and thats where the smashing/throwing/slamming/whatever comes in. i suppose if you dont maybe you're not feeling it enough hahaa.

cobain did not give a fuck about what guitar he was playing when it came to smashing it,the sunburst jag was smashed MANY times, just put back together by his tech. just look at the video from the argentina stadium gig.
he only played a few mex fenders because they were sometimes all the band could find when it came to left handed guitars on tour, because kurt had already smashed a guitar before that and the techs couldnt put it back together in time.

switching guitars just for the sake of smashing it is bloody stupid. why make it a whole pre-mediated event? "oh maybe it'd look cool to smash my guitar but i dont want to hurt my baby so i'll just change to a shit one instead". thats probably the ultimate in poseur-ing.

Uh huh. Right. Okaaaaay. Hmm.

Tell that to YJM, Vai etc etc. Lol.

Come on, some guitars are just too precious to smash. And some people, in the heat of the moment, decide "hey, i wanna smash something", so they get a crap guitar and smash it for the heck of it.

The fans love it and thats all they care about, really.
