Hi all

Thinking of getting a Bigsby tremolo equipped guitar. I heard that changing strings on it is more difficult than changing on normal tremolo systems. Is it true? Anyone have any experience on changing strings on a Bigsby? Care to share?

Thanks :)

it is still much faster and simple then a floyd rose but couple extra compare to normal stop tail geetar, but its really not difficult at all.

at least on the one that i have tried and owned for a short while, It was easy, just few more steps compared to usual stop tail geetar.

Hmmm, whats the thingy you might have heard regarding the difficulties?

PatheinRaindropMoe: I was looking at the Bigsby site and the part where foam wedge is used makes me confused hehe :)

Dudelove: Hehe thanks for adding the pic inside for easier reference..:P

btw faizal. are u getting a guitar that already has a bigsby or, getting one and fitting in on ur guitar?

i'll be getting one soon to fit on my les paul and i'm shipping in from the states. i'm pissed scared abt drilling.. ahhahha

dudelove: I`m getting one that already has a bigsby on it. I hear bigsby can give good sustain. I kinda need to know if restringing a Bigsby is really a hassle. :)

oh thats good. yeah it does improve sustain. i've tried an epiphone with a bigsby and a gibson without one there really is quite significant difference.

i really dont think its much of a hassle lah. haha floyd rose is already a headache.

but honestly, i have to admit. the main reason why i want one is to make my guitar more unique. since mine is already a very common gibson les paul..
:(

initially it might be diff to bend it into the hole as in the pics.. but once u get the hang of it, it will be routine.. i still prefer it to the flyod rose

Hmm maybe u guys are right...I always find floyd rose tremolo restringing so complicated and quite a hassle. Seen Beez did it before haha..I suppose installing strings on a Bigsby will be a new challenge for me and is still not as bad as compared to floyd rose.

Mayb I`ll ask Uncle Beez to teach me the Bigsby way hehehe ;)

godspeed! when u install a bigsby, the tune o matic still remains. only the stopbar tailpiece is removed haha.

Faizall: No la not difficult at all... in facts its easy. I bet once you see the bigsby for real you're guitar instincts will guide you to re-string it the proper way.

I know.. But like a lil bit more hassle in changing strings.. Plus I don't really need the vibrato anyways.. Waste money to me lah.. In the future maybe can.. Rather get the piezo bridge first!

bouncy: Haha ur right..in fact, I was a bit frightened on what I saw in the Bigsby pics at first, then I slowly looked at them, analyzed them and thought well yeah, I think I can learn this..shouldn't be difficult.

But I know it won't be a huge hassle as restringing my 12 string I used to own back then. Now that's a hassle haha :)

Ized: Whoa, I didn't u had restringing issues with ur ZR bridge. Extra steps as compared to a FR bridge?

no la, what i meant was the only floyd rose i would use is the ZR cos of the ease of restringing and tuning. But then again since its so different its not really a floyd after all...ibanez ceased paying royalities to floyd rose for that model.

Hi all

Sent my Casino with Bigsby to Beez for him to setup. Well, it wasn't so hard changing strings as I thought it would be. I even had a hands-on installing the strings with guidance from Beez. Just need to bend the ball end a bit n then hook it at the claw, but must remember to keep tension at the bridge while threading the other end of the string thru the tuners, otherwise the ball-end will fall off the claw. :P

After the setup, it plays easily now. Able to bend strings and whammy the Bigsby. No tuning problems ;)

I read somewhere that getting a roller bridge will help to eliminate string breakage esp when using the Bigsby. So I`ll be getting one soon. Dudelove, u should get one as well :)
