In hunt for a new piece.

Eh, what's your budget?

If you had more budget to afford things above the PGM3, then there's no issue - no point choosing it.

Preferably as low as possible but, up till now, 2k is the limit (really preferably lower, got other items to get). Is it too little for a good FR HSH piece?

If you can only spend 2k. I suggest you PM Ripper to see if he can find you an old Ernie Ball Musicman Silo with a floyd rose. ( its 24 frets and h/s/h )They have been discontinued for a while now.

Or alternatively, go with USACG. Choose your parts and ask for advice from members here who have done it before ( shredcow, edo83, me, KayCee, Malcom and etc ) It takes about 2-3 mths for the neck and body to come. Its fun and you will have absolute control over what ever parts your guitar wants.

I really don't recommend ibanez. Overpriced these days and nothing much about them is really worth a 2nd look. Unless your looking at possibly J customs or the Anniversary 550.

If you are can go a lil more like 2.5-2.6k and make a compromise for 22 frets, there are always 2nd hand Tom Andersons and Suhrs for sale on ebay at awesome prices and ship international.

The again, all IMO of course.

Actually, with custom work with USACG or Warmoth parts - you'll have to keep it rather tight. 2k probably can't get you a paint finished body.

My USACG - its not painted. I oiled it myself. Saved me quite a bit of dough.

Wasn't some guy selling a Washburn Nuno signature guitar? A top of the line model?

For 2k u can get an ibanez prestige over e bay

eBay.com.sg: Ibanez S2170SE S-Series Electric Guitar (item 170213724354 end time Jun 25, 2008 05:16:09 SGT)

eBay.com.sg: Ibanez Rg2570Evgd Prestige Electric Guitar (item 270234794223 end time Jun 04, 2008 13:53:26 SGT)

If you don't mind h-h,can get a lot more choices with fr and 24 frets. I prefer h-h over hsh cos most times the middle pup tends to get in the way when picking. Unless u really need the mid pup, its better to go with h-h

the ltd kh-600 comes with an original floyd rose active emg humbuckers and retails for only $1600 at davies. Most esp ltd sig 600 series are of 24 frets, original fr and h-h

The epiphone prophecy futura is 24 frets, original fr and emg humbuckers.

Check out the dean korean razorbacks. Form ebay, can get below 2k with shipping.

Most guitars by non ibanez brands built for shredding done in h-h configuration.

O about the fr bridge there have been many discussions on these. If properly set up, string changing actually isn't too hard and stay in tune better than anything else. Problem is many guitars from swee lee, yamaha are not set up properly especially those that come with fr bridges.

If you're new to it, take it to a tech to have it set up and get hin to tech u how to change strings etc.

For cheap customs i know zen guitar works was selling this fr string through model for only $699.

O btw last time i was at g77 theres this 2nd hand blue ibanez js1000 going for $1500

You might want to check out the Indo batch of Jem Jr (the ones with Edge 3, not ILT-1) as well if you dont mind the guitar being affiliated with Vai...

The Edge 3 performs well, just not as well as the higher end trems.

Out of topic for a bit: Since Jem Jr's got a lion's claw cavity, is it able to fit OFR or Other Licensed Floyds? (stuff like taking trem post distance into account)

Hi all,

Thanks for the suggestions. Been looking through this thread; will be checking out on more alternatives. Currently browsing through the catalogues of Ishibashi.

It'll be good if it has easy access to higher frets; as long as it does, doesn't matter if it is super strat or not. I'm ok with anything ha.

Thanks again.

Rgds

Urhz, if it says thru-neck, then yeah, easier access. You'll often find this in the Ibanez RG Prestige series.

Or if it has chamfering like the Ibanez SV5470. Check out subversion's blog for this.
