I'm starting soon...

Hey everyone, I'm gonna start learning the electric guitar soon, (around october) and I'm wondering which guitar I should get. Right now, I'm eyeing 3 guitars...
The Fender Strat (USA),
Gibson SG, (btw, anyone know where I can get 1 of these in the Peninsula? Does Davis have? Cost?)
or the BC Rich Beast.

I'm interested in Green day, Saosin and MCR songs to name a few, so which guitar is best suited?

My Budget is like around $2000 (Not including amp and accessories). High for a 13 year old right :P

that's a very exhorbitant budget to start with. i hope you'd be serious about learning guitar.. seriously. you have to realise how fortunate you are, and i mean it.

Gibsons in Peninsula, you'd likely only find them in guitar 77. Swee Lee's the main delear for Gibson. Davis does sell ESP Vipers though, which are similar in shape to the SG AND is within your budget, definitely. though it should be noteworthy that the similarities are only in the shape..

enjoy yourself. seldom do people have the pleasure of spending $2000 in a go.

wow..nice budget for a start out..

Took me a 2 years to save :P

Haha... I'm lucky that I get $5 allowance everyday... just that I don't use it, so I get tummy pains lol.

Anyway, how much would Swee Lee be selling the SG? The other stuff's all figured out ;)

And yes, so which of the 3 guitars should I get?

get Schecter (u got the moolah).
go down to Guitar77 to check them out or check out the Schecter website.
if u find any one that u like and Guitar77 dont carry them, they can help u to order them.
there're alot of guitar brands u can choose from, unless u really want the 3 u've stated u should check the others out considering that u've got a big budget.

The C1 Baritone blackjack looks nice, I'll go check it out...

Oh yes, a friend of mine said that the pickups on the strat rust easily, so he told me to stick to something else, prefferably with the colour black (makes it look nicer and easier to maintain )

contact information as above. call them to check for the latest pricing.

Well, I'll either call, or take a trip to the showroom at Bras Basah. I live nears Bishan, so it shouldn't be too far...

Hi there, I can't agree more with the rest that you're one hell of a lucky guy :)

Well, I beg to differ on your friend's point though, when buying pickups be it fitted to the guitar or not, it should be based on the sound and tone you like and not so much of it getting rusted easily. Yea, its true that black makes it look nicer and easier to maintain. But what if the black pickups don't give you the tone that you want? The pickups on my Ibanez are silver / chrome in colour and I use rifle oil to maintain it once every month. You might wanna reconsider ;)

Genre wise, I think you're pretty close to me. I play rock and metal and Ibanez works really well for me. But that's all up to you though. All the best for your search dude!

Note: A bottle of rifle oil can be bought at beach road for just 1 or 2 bucks :)

Do people use that on REAL rifles???

So, which of the guitars should I get?
I don't want something cheap that spoils easily though, so my price range is minimum $600.

The BC Rich is $650 in Davis(I think)
The Strat is $1800 (Made in US)
The SG is ... I don't know :p

try the schecter c-1 classic if you wanna get a schecter

search for it at musiciansfriend.com
good review

but i dont think u can try it out in singapore :D :D

So for punk rock or heavy metal, what should I get?

Im into metal and Like i said previously, with your budget.. You gotta load of options to choose from boy.. Therefore, if it was me... Id go for the Jackson Randy Rhoads which can be a little of a challenge to play at first due to its shape.. If not the RR, id go for the Sg's or the Lp's since ure into punk rock and im sure you cant go wrong with the guitar of those genre.. Well, this is just my opinion.. Be sure to update us if u have already found ur beauty.

wow 2k is nice. haha im 18 and trying to save up for a fender jap only >< i'd say get a les paul. its a beauty =) and the tone pretty much suits your genre. have you considered purchasing effects too? might come in handy in the future good luck man! and yea update us when you've found your axe (:

I haven't found a perfect guitar yet, but could you post either a picture or the full name of the guitar next time? I was wondering what RR was and wasted 30mins looking in google for "RR".

Anyway, does anyone know where i can get soundtests for the guitar from?

How about dean razorback? tried one of them.. its awesome.. i love the neck =) haha if u want a smaller body, dean ml ... i think jackson rr24 looks quite cool .. saw 1 during the last SL sales. i htink it was going for 1.4k after 50 % discount.. 0r maybe ibanez xiphos?

Bro, cheap guitar doesnt mean that guitar is crap/spoil easily. My super cheap strat copy at home is working perfect and it looks real good. And my J. Suzuki Les Paul is looking great after changing the hardware and sounds alot better after changing the stock pickups.

Maybe an Ibanez JEM7V is to your liking or the Epiphone Zakk Wylde Signature Les Paul. U can check them out.

I'm gonna get JEM7V soon !
WooHoo ~

A LP, SG, Ibanez, Jackson should do good for hard rock - metal. I'd recommend a dual humbucker guitar for heavier stuff you will be playing, which are fitted on most LPs/SGs.

What kind of guitars do your favourite bands play? Maybe you can base your choice on that. Make sure to research as u can get a nice guitar for that budget.

Well, I don't really like the Zakk Wylde design...

I was just thinking, if I were to stick to just the 3 guitars, which one is best suited? They all seem so nice, especially the Beast. (Cos I tried it firsthand :p)

I havn't tried the other 2, but they sound so nice on youtube. The strat is very versatile...

Can anyone identify the guitar used in this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-5oQ4CPTrc
