I think I have been scammed.. beware

Just some thought...

Assuming that the guitar was flawless, or at least the trader (the person who traded with ep.tjan) was contended with every aspect of the guitar during the point of transaction, it will be a little unfair to accuse ep.tjan of cheating. After all, testings and inspections could have been performed at the comfort and convenience of the trader, in the most unbiased manner (I assumed that the trader tested with his amp and equipments). Whether or not, the trader tested everything to his satisfaction, imo, is not justifiable, because this is the trader's neglect as all opportunities to test the guitar were available.

There might be a possibility that the trader has tampered with the guitar, such as modding the guitar diy style but screwed up; or he could have accidentally damaged like dropping it in a bathtub of water. I am not implying that the trader has done these, but there might, just might, be a possility. Or it could be pure bad luck that the guitar went a little bonkers after changing hands.

Whatever the case, it is unfair for ep.tjan to give out a perfect and flawless guitar, only to take it back, this time with defects.

Don't entertain the guy. If he wants to escalate the whole issue, he'd have done so. I find the notion of testing the guitar only one week after trading to be ridiculous.

Yeah, screw that guy.

I once sold a bass, (excellent condition & price) to this kid who then called me the next day and said, "Hey, you sold me too expensive lah. How?" I brushed him off, recorded down his number. WTF, should I refund him the difference becos he found a cheaper 2nd Hand Bass in e-bay USA?

Saw him putting up an ad next day trying to sell my bass for a hundred bucks more! LOL.

I've bought stuff that are above market rate but I'm happy with the seller and I love the guitars so a deal done's a deal done, right? Just make sure homework is done. Don't go "Bro, you sell me expensive."

Another hint is NOT to sell from your own home. Don't let the buyer know too much abt u, or where u live. There are thugs around SOFT.

Just a suggestion....
James (if u r reading), mebbe the BUY/SELL section can have a no regrets, no-refund, pls test before buy clause at the top. Just to remind everyone.

Dear Mr Ep.jtan,

Everytime you put up a trade offer, i'm probably one of the 1st ones to drool over the offering. Too bad i dont have anything worth trading with or the $$ to buy stuff off you. lol.

but i do think that u are a few of the last remining good ol' softies remaining on soft worth trusting. I mean to go out of ur way to go to the buyer's house to let him have his feel.. my man, that deserves some major respect. hah..

i think that soft has a growing population of very young, who dont know any better when dealing with fellow softies, most of them turn out really rude and unrealistic abt trades and cost expectations. in which case it's important for the dedicated sellers here on soft to be a bit more anal abt ur sales for ur own safety. i guess this advice would go vice versa for the buyers.

i guess as a seller and trader, it's good to call the interested party the minute u share ur cellphone numbers, the tone of a person's voice can reveal a lot abt how the deal may go down. and if the person seems unwilling to share a simple cellphone number.. then something fishy right there already. half hearted buyers should very rarely be entertained, cos these are the ppl who back out at the last second.

dangers of a growing online community i guess. lets be a bit more cautious and watch each other's backs. i think cosidering all the buying and selling that goes on, on this forum, maybe we should have a buyer seller rating option? u know the rating thing on ebay? i think it's a very nice guide to gauge the risk your taking when dealing with an idividual on the forum.

okay write a lot already. lol.

Hey everyone,
Didn't realize he had taken this thing public. I am the softie to which this post refers.

I traded the guitar with him. The problem I had is that it was a new guitar to me at the time of playing and so I didn't have full time to play around with it. You never play a guitar the same way when you're first holding it, it takes time to get used to.

The problem was I left immediately that night for some work out of the country. I came back a week later and gave it the full play time it deserved. Once my hands were used to it and I was playing it more fully...only then did I start to notice some of the issues. Sure they were kind of minor, but I didn't see them at first and would have within the first 24 hours of having it it...HAD I BEEN AROUND TO PLAY IT THEN.

I can understand that he already sold the guitar I traded him, but I asked if we could at least contact that guy and see if he might send it back in good faith, but that wasn't an ok solution for some reason.

I appreciated the offer to trade for another of his guitars, but none of them were similar in any way to what was originally traded or what I was looking to get...so not a fair solution to me. In the end I paid to have the guitar re-set up and for the S1 switch to be properly soldered...I keep checking the guitars on his site and have recently seen one that I'm interested in, I hope that he'll still honor his original offer to trade with me and this all ends well. I didn't want to come public with all of this since he trades on here a lot and wanted to maintain his reputation.... I would have appreciated him letting me know that he had taken it publicly though after asking me NOT to...

And to be completely transparent I also offered to repay all travel costs to my house, rebring the guitar to him and even give him some money for all the hassle and time lost. I feel like I was fair. Again, had i been in town at the time of the trade I would have seen it in a timely manner and asked sooner. It's my bad for leaving and I don't fault him at all for turning the other guitar. Just wish he would have asked the other guy that got my guitar, but that's a minor point.

I will say he seems like a great dealer (didn't meet him, he sent his brother for the deal) and hope to trade with him soon and resolve all of this well. I think the soft forum should be a good place for buyers and sellers and I'm not trying to do anything to his name. I take him at his word that I can retrade to him at fair value and think that's the best offer that he could have made at that time :)

Usually when I sell something, I give them a "3-day money back" crap going on. Provided they don't come back on the 3rd day with a half broken pedal or whatever I'm selling.

I usually keep their contact number in case they call me so I can find out what's wrong and I usually request for them to check the condition of the item on the spot. I don't want incidents like "When you pass me the pedal yesterday, were the screws loose? Cause there's a missing one" and stuff like that. I only give my numbers via PM.

I think as a customer, you have your rights. And as a dealer / seller, you should have some integrity. You spoil your name on the market and everyone will look at you that way and forgo your shop or product.

When he traded the guitar with you it is thus your right to do whatever you want with it, ( robbing a bank with it, burning it selling it etc. ).

The only guitar I feel is capable of doing that is the machine gun guitar at Davis, haha!
