I SUCK

woah.. its like a warzone in here..
and bro softies bro.. pop CAN be quite hard ok?
rhythm wise it can be like ?!?!?!
weird strumming techniques etc etc..
anyways.. the best way to improve certainly is to get a teacher..
if u cant afford, read up on online lessons..
constant practice is important.. AND you gotta moniter what you practice..
diversity is important when playing guitar..
u may wanna jump straight to metal, but learning blues wont hurt right?
and you gotta learn rhythm too.. helps you out in lead like VASTLY..
quick chord changing, strumming pattern, attack.. all that is important..
for lead its wise to know simple techniques like hammer-ons, pull-offs, bends..
economic and alternate picking is important.. and know the scales..
you cant play rubbish during an open jam right?
cheers!

Hmmm

Just drink loads of beer... crank up the amp.. and just whack.. everything sounds good after that.. heh heh.. just don't let anyone else hear you playing.. hahaha

Godspeed64

lol YES i fully agree....pop can be more difficult to play then just doing chunky and fast palm muted riffs.....

My previous band played everything from funk bossanova to christian pop-rock....wasn't that easy i admit.....Especially when i was handling vocals and was the sole guitarist. Yep. Forced to hold both fortes....3 actually if you count in vocals....

Thanks Thor666. I want to give a slap with a fish. Haha. Just kidding.

Who's Penguin? My long term goals? Erm to be able to play guitar. I guess.

And can I have the link to Dhalif's one lick per week thing?

Haha yeah. I understand where you're coming from. I think my rhythm is pretty mediocre already. And I'll learn a few simple and commonly used blue licks and stuff. That would help right?

Hmm bro mediocre don't sound very good lah.. heh heh.. anyway.. with regards to I Sucking.. If you do suck at least do it with style.. Make sure you practise on looking good ya??

You know like practise flicking your pick into the crowd, practise nice smooth looking double handed movements while playing, pretend to give high 5s to crowd.. stuff like that will take you a long long way ;)

hahaha..

Anyway I'm kidding... practise properly.. heh

Haha. Yeah. I will. I made a few videos and showed it to my friends. The main thing I'm doing wrong according to them is my tempo which is extremely out and also I'm not putting enough feel into it.

Accelerate Your Guitar Playing -Tomo Fujita then.

I hope I'm not overpreaching here, so check out the thread over at thegearpage.net (do a search, easy find). The lessons are approached from a drumming perspective imo and will help your timing and feel.

What's the title of the thread may I ask?

and of course... |-57765| or |10,12,12,10,10,10| HAHA... i couldn't resist :p

If you're speed problem is in your left hand, then I think everyone here has given good advice (despite all the bickering and arguing). If the problem is with your right hand, you may wish to try a technique, where you refrain from picking (the usual way) with fingers and wrist, and try to stiffen your wrist and shake your forearm vigorously from the elbow (with only the tip of the pick hitting the strings).... You'll find immediately you can play very fast (but it may not be controlled well). With the diligence mentioned in other posts here, you should be able to learn to control that shaking action (be sure to use a metronome, if you don't have one already built-in to your BRAINNNN...)
