I SUCK

Hmm.

I have to agree with mr dhalif in terms of the end product of what we do eventually. so many times I've been asked to do all sorts of oldies songs, hence my acoustic repertoire is full of oldies stuff.

And my main love is blues rock. How? Compromise lah, get your chops right and let the money come later I suppose? keep working hard on what you love, and on the sidelines learn stuff that will keep the dough flowing in / popularity flowing in.

And with regards to folks who have the dough to splurge on good gear, while I admire their gear, sometimes their "I am greater than thou" attitude does tick me off. Mr zax, a gentle word... do not fall into habit of thinking more $$$ = more power. A little humility does not cost you anything more than a little sting to the brain know as PRIDE.

Hais ITS ALL MY FAULT GUYS FOR ASKING SUCH A STUPID QUESTION AT THE START IF I DIDNT ASK THAT QUESTION THERE WOULD STLL BE WORLD PEACE, IM SORRY GUYS SORRY DHALIF SORRY ZAX...

i don't know but blues rock this kinda thing, you should try writing your own music and sending to overseas records companies? Singapore got no market for this or metal, you'll have better luck keeping the cash flowing if you're promoting overseas for such genres. Which barely get any coverage in Singapore.

Dude there is nothing to be sorry about. i jus think that some pple, just misunderstand. Zax, i dunno wat u are up to. but i think u are like here to aim dhalif? i dunno man, it seems like it when u post it in such a way. and not all pple who teach guitars are like wat u claim it to be.. if u read deeper into lif's post. to some extent it is true. if u have the guts to say it all out like that, show some balls, and facts that lif is actually commenting on other pple's preference in genre. i noe of guitarist who can kick ur ass... including mine in playing, and they are playing pop. No offence dude.. but i think u are wayy over ur top in terms of saying pple who are being arrogant. look at ur own post. who is more arrogant in tht factor?? dude.. u got balls.. show it to pple.. no one is here to flame it.. if u dun ike this post of mine.. screw it man. if u are still not happy, come down to music garage and look for me.. Simon Lai here.. Money do make the world go ard.. but it doesnt give u the authority to think u are so great as u think u are dude.. think abt it.

hey guys, i think we oughta stop, i think zax's got our point. Whether or not he will take back his words is up to him. Just telling him like, how wrong he is and all that ain't gonna help anymore.

dont get pissed with me , i just hate it when people like dhalif tell other people that they're taste in music is useless ,people like you always think the world of yourselves just because you teach guitar and all .
khuakana , you misunderstood me . i dont spoil posts , i correct them cause i hate people who like to cheat others and/or put them down .

and yes money makes the world go round , but i dont have much of it , YET

no offence dude.. but this post ticks me off. cuz in the first place no one said abt telling other pple tht they're taste in music is useless, and is he trying to say tht pple whu teaches guitar and all thinks a world of himself? i mean come one.. how long do u noe dhalif to pass a comment like tht? wat 20 years? and by jus looking at the post he makes u can comment on his character? haha.. i think tt is all bull la.. talk about being constructive here, are u doing tht here zax? seriously i am not flaming u la.. but jus go think abt wat u post lo. prolly u will understand where i am coming from.

zax, are you not putting people down by saying what you did? honestly, dude, yeah your gear is somewhat impressive for a 16 year old. but dont go around thinking you own the damn world. i'm not shy to admit in terms of playing, im not the best. and the fact is, however bloody good you are, theres always room for improvement.

can we get back to the topic of helping the threadstarter instead of entertaining zax in his wonderous "behind my screen and keyboard" antics.

oh yes! agreed... back on the topic. yy, learn finger independence.. and as sub says, u shud also dig the dynamics factor.. cuz speed.. can be easily build. with a metronome of cuz.. and on top of tht.. when u are doing an exercise, at first, u will ba able to execute correctly, but after some time, u will start to screw up, tht is the time to stop and click the refresh button in ur mind, cuz its getting tired, if u cont to pract with the mistake, all u are doing is practicing tht mistake.. which is all not good! so when u hit the barrier, go play other stuff b4 u go back at it!! in time with consistent practise.. u will achieve the speed u have been searching for!! good luck!!!

practice a lick, with clarity before speed. no point rushing through everything and sounding slightly unclear after so much practice yah? slowly build up the speed while maintaining note clarity. and should there be, precise bends, slides, hammers and pulls. everything contributes to THAT orgasmic sounding solo or riff.

metronomes DEFINITELY help loads as well. all the best with the practice mate!

dude , screw my gear , 6 months ago i was stuck with a second hand squire affinity , people used to comment on the stuff i play , so i know how it feels to be put down by some guitar god that thinks hes so great . im not rich , or anywhere near there , i dont live in a 15 million dollar house , but understand that dhalif is putting the dude down and im defending . stop thinking im arrogant , cause if it hit a raw spot i guess its time to rethink your lives , if my comment affects anybody . to others , the argument is not between you so kindly stick to a neutral purely observatory position . and btw i paid for each and every one on my guitars , without my parents help

speaking bout raw spot. so u are telling me now that it didnt hit urs? and speaking bout looking at it at a observation point. are u doing tht as well? and for ur info, ur comment is insulting. thts why pple are responding. its insulting and no brainer. tht is as clear as it can get. look closely and see if the post was meant to even toking bout pple's musical taste. and also speaking bout the comment tht does not regard anybody else. why in the first place u made such comment when it doesnt regard u at all? get my point dude?

Anyways, i have spoken my peace, just to let u noe, maybe u jus need to rephrase what u have mention. all the best in ur music endeavours... i hope for the best for u sincerely!(P.S: i am not being sacarstic here if u interepret it that way.) i sincerely meant it. Just letting u noe that by passin on such judgement on pple its not fair la. i am not against u, so till then have a good one with your music. all the best!!!

wanna achieve speed?

practice, practice and practice.

its all about blood, sweat and tears. technique is really important as shredding and sweeping require good coordination from both hands, fretting and picking.

tone is important as you want to achieve fluid legato from your soloing.

personally i depend on alot of hammer ons and pull offs for speed playing. but somehow i cant keep running forever, pulling off fast doesnt really have the same tonality like true blue legato playing....

anyway......

just a few days ago i was tryin' the intro for scarified by paul gilbert (it didnt seem so hard after a while). i noticed that i muted the strings like you did, making unwanted noise. one thing i did was run over the lick or phrase over and over again. starting out slow, getting my fingers accustomed to the pattern. soon i was able to pull it off, and i did it fast too. the rest of the song is a killer tho, that would probably take me a helluva time, but hey, im not that good as well.

again i would also like to add that when you have already achieved speed, you must also make sure that what you shred must not only fast but melodic and soulful as well. alot of friends i have usually shred until they become big massive mindless shredding machines with no soul. shreddings' also music, so dont abuse it.

my 2 cents worth

cheers ;)

practice, practice, practice! (the right way of course). do not rush into playing fast, always make sure your technique is clean.

any remedy to the chunks of flesh in my fingers that "picks" the strings while i change chords between arpeggios?? lol sounds comical but very irritating because the problem's been there since i started sweeping a few months back

Haha wah Dhalif power sia

"my guitar cannot kill zax's guitars"

oops sorry back to the point. yeah anyway just focus on building up speed. but most importantly, learn control and train up your melodic sensibilities. no point playing fast if it all sounds like crap.

hope that helps.
