I SUCK

I can't play fast. It's either the notes all get muffled up together to produce a hell of a ear deafening noise or a few of them get muted. Any tips?

Work slowly, it took me 8 months to shred. Play new licks very slowly, then work up speed. its all about finger muscle memory. Don't continue when you're tried, maybe just slowly.

play with a metronome, and start at speeds where EVERYTHING you play is clear. Then practice those patterns and increase the beat every 2 to 3 days. soon, you'll be faster than Malmsteen... :lol:

Well, practice the riff part over and over again to make your fingers programmed to touch the desired fret notes...

That's what I usually do when I play all those complicated songs like Stargazer, She Is My Sin, etc...

Also, work on them slowly yet perfectly as possible... With patience, you'll definitely will get better....

And ALWAYS remember the term REST whenever your fingers are tired.... :lol:

inferring from your post, you are more inclined to fast-paced music. my advice here would be to expose yourself to the slower genre; blues etc to comprehend certain aspects of precision & technicalities. i believe this would add value to your playing.

Haha I do play a little blues. But I'm trying to get different techniques like shredding and sweeping and stuff you see. Coz it's really helpful for solo composing etc

For sweeping and shredding what is really needed is seriously VERY consistent practice, play about 3 hours a day. Won't take you too long to shred. Sweeping a little trickier, but again, just practice. But your 3 hours a day practice don't do all at one shot. Otherwise it will be pointless.

don't rush to shred dammit, its harder done than what u see on MTV.
make sure u can even change chords properly and fast enough.

just do the E, G, Am, Dm and u get boulevard of broken dreams, try it out, make sure u can do it fast enough(and dun mess up) then u start to shred. ok maybe not even shred, just do some simple solos eg : miss murder

i would say go learn pentatonics scales and try improvising . if u wan faster speed work with a metronome .
