I screwed up my guitar yet again

ya i did, 39 and 159.. i think.. i browsed quite a lot alr :D

but must import or can get from u rawr!

A Viper pup is 80 USD.

I have no idea where you saw 159USD.

Whats wrong with having Stan mail it to you?

He has been doing that all the time. I've got a package coming in this week too. Or maybe next week.

Boy, the rumours were right. Softies are tone-wankers indeed. haha. I mean it in a good way off course. All i had to say was change pick-ups and BANG! I get loads of info.

Thanx guys. I do ultimately want to change (everybody does when they have stock pick-ups) but seeing the situation now, i feel hastened to change pick-ups. Moreover, i'm a person who hates seeing a guitar incomplete.

Ok, my friend who has an X2N says that its very noisy and not a very good choice. The reason i fancy X2N is cuz of Chuck Schuldiner (Death) and on the last 2 Death albums, he uses light distortion that makes the sound dirty but precise and he does play some open chord stuff.

But i'm afraid it may be TOO powerful. Basically, i want a creamy neck pick-up for those buttery leads and a precise, powerful yet versatile bridge, all coil-split. More ideas guys?

Or should i just take my regular pick-ups to Beez and get em repaired first and call it a day? haha. Stress.

well since u noe wad kinda tone u want...get the pickups and send it to beez..get everything done at once..

Well i know what type of pick-ups i want but i'm not a walking gutair cataogue, meaning i'm not very knowlegeable about pick-ups etc. I generally know what's going on tho. And sometimes, websites over-advertise their pick-ups. Its better to get some info from the experience of ppl here. They could recommend me some awesome stuff :)

well...juz take everything u read and everything everyone say with a pinch of salt.

good luck bro! :D

David,

Wei Chiang let me listen to one of your tracks, but I cannot remember how your tone sounds like. I assume that it's the Yamaha with the stock pups?

You're right, X2N might be too hot. Overkill. You might consider turning to other places such as your amp or pedals for high-output needs instead of your pups. At least it's more versatile that way.

Has-sounds are a good choice. But the Hellion is not exactly creamy though, imho. I stick with the Air Nortons. And yes! That's the store, James, gain10!

i was thinkin i wouldn't need high-gain pick-ups because i was gonna get a line6 uber metal pedal anyways.

Right now, the neck pick-up is on whole (lack of cash) but the air-norton i checked out the specifics. It does seem damn creamy. Somehow, i keep thinking of ghee and butter thosai. Yes, weird i know.

I actually loved my stock pick-ups. The only problem i had was that sometimes it can come off as muddy when in bridge hum but i really think its more of a cheap fx problem. But the coil-splits work wonderfully! So maybe i would wanna change the bridge pick-up for a medium or a not so high output pick-up? Besides muddines, the other qualm i have is squeals. Can't squeal everywhere like a pig. I was looking at some hums, breed n evo2 ...dunno opnions pls?

oh yeah, i like the idea of hellion, phil. i'm one who's not into heavy compressing. I appreciate sensitivity and dynamics when playing as well. But i'm new to the pick-up business so i won't rush things. The last thing i want is to actually buy something and regretting. I think the first step is reparing my neck hum first. So, even if i do replace it in the future, i can keep it for safe-storage.

I think the Dimarzio Tone-Zone (Bridge) and Air-Norton (Neck) would be a nice combo. The Tone Zone seems to be a hot pick-up without sacrificing dynamics and oopmph. I hope. And the air-norton seems to be an unmuddy creamy neck pick-up.

Haha... I had an X2N before. Dead quiet. Everything in balance. Hot pup, don't need too heavy gain. Its very compressed, ridiculous for metal. hence chuck of death using it. Can be very mean. There's something about the x2n that makes you want to go back to it all the time...
http://music.download.com/Shredcows go listen to X2N Showcase. :D

HAS Sound has been my pups of choice. Beaten every dimarzio I've tried, Tonezones, Breeds, PAF Joe, FRED, Air Norton, Double Whammy, Megadrive, X2N, etc etc....

hmm, correct me if im wrong, but if a person uses multi-efx changing the pickups wouldn't really make much of a diff rite?

after all, the signal is going o be digtally processed anyways.....the guitar loses its original tone.

Well sort of. Digital processing, as i've suffered for the past 2 years, rapes ur tone. I'm no tone God, but digital processing really can wank ur tone off. Its because multi-fx distortion produces the whole bandwidth, killing any sort of characteristic the pick-up might add. the only thing that might make a diff is the hotness.

orite i visited Beez and the legend himself said that i should just change both pickups.

Anyways, i've decided on a dimarzio pair.
Air Norton in the neck and i have some confusion about the pups in the bridge. I want versatility (expressiveness, dynamics) with power (but not the x2n kind)

So i'm tied between Tonezone (supposedly responsive the sensitive playing), breed (smooth blah blah) and evolution (vai). Beez asked me to consdier seymour duncans cuz value for money and asked me to read up on humbucker from hell.

Suggestions, tone gods?
Oh yeah. F-spaced is for floating bridge rite? And if i wanna use a 5-way selector (my guitar is a 5 way selector), i need 4-conductor wirings for my pups rite? Just to get things straight.

My recommendations.

Basswood body guitar, 24 frets, rosewood neck,
Breed neck, Breed bridge.
Vintagey tone with modern power.

Air Norton / Double Whammy
Smoothness, fatness, without the mud prone-ness of the Tonezone. More modern sounding.

If using Air Norton, it might be weird to have a ceremic pup for the bridge, you might find the extra hair of the bridge pup too much.

Humbucker from Hell is an excellent neck pup but its a one trick pony. There's a review here in SOFT.

Air Norton. Typical. Boring. Safe.

I've been weaned off Dimarzios but those are the combinations Ive tried that, if I had to go back to DImarzios, I would use them.

haha maybe you should just go get vipers....right Shred? HAS sound they are having a special discount now.....

so true, i need a new neck to go with my 16k viper bridge. the air norton sounds extremely dark and smooth in comparison now.

hahaha, its not that high!

comparing it to the previous bridge pickup, the seymour duncan distortion, i would say it has more clarity, cut and a bigger, tighter bass response. it also has a less pronounced midrange compared to the distortion, i had to raise the mids on my amp to get the same thick lead tones i had before. overall, good shit.

i could have gotten the hellion and made things simple, but the "meaty" and "thick" descriptives wasnt something i wanted for my schecter. my schecter is already relatively dark and warm and i wanted something with more cut and clarity. oh, 16k because.... the distortion registers 16.7k and overwinding has no extra charge anyways
