HSS pickups opinion

Out of curiosity, what pickups would you use for a Fender HSS guitar? I am planning to change the mid and the humbucker cause the neck is loaded with a sustainer.

duncan sh4JB / sh14 on the bridge
and the middle.. duncan vintage series SingleCoil PU...it would be nice...

I'm using a dimarzio virtual vintage solo neck, fender alnico v middle(RW) and stan heinsley hellion for my bridge. Killer combo - esp the Hellion...just kills most of the duncans and dimarzios out there.

Sorry for this really stupid question I'm about to ask, if I were to put it in the middle...and the sound samples, which one should I follow? Bridge / Mid or Neck / Mid? There's not one specifically for Mid so I don't really know how it should sound when I have it installed there.

the sound of neck -mid !! definitely !! :) really cool both SC sound

Is it 'okay' for me to have an SD for my mid and a Dimarzio for my bridge? Any things I should take note of?

its ok... i have a dimarzio breed on bridge and duncan jazz on the neck in the same guitar... it sound good when i combine it
if u found ur guitar sound out of phase when u activated the both PU... u just simply unsolder one of the PU cables and reverse the HOT wire and the Ground wire to the potentio pins (so the hot wire become ground ; ground become hot)

Thanks! This is really helpful information.

i have always liked Fender's (American models) default mid/neck single coils, i tend to swap the bridge unit only. the (Duncan) Pearly Gates Plus is an overlooked humbucker when it comes to a Strat pairing.

I concur. I've been using the Hellion in the bridge of my prestige for close to 3 years already. So the honeymoon is over a long time ago, but still love it and have never thought of replacing it.

Woah fancy, fancy pickups there. Would love to owe one of those when I got the money to do so. I'm in an experimental mood. Thanks for all the help and etc so far, it means a lot.

Phil....great to know you have the same pickup as me! Stan does make really great stuff aye?

Was lucky to get it off a fellow softie here....and its never leaving my strat...until the day i decide i wanna quit playing high gain.

Unlike most high output pups...the cleans are really NICE...not dull and unispiring like an evo for example. Most high output pups tend to snuff out the highs but Stan manages to retain the clarity, sparkle and output on his pups like the viper. I thought the Viper was already very nice but when i tried the hellion i was like wow.

now...if only Stan made a hum-cancelling single coil....I'd replace that dimarzio virtual vintage solo in my neck!
