Howzabout separate Forums for >25 years for Musicians Wan

I actually enjoy reading the post from teenagers and I am sure the oldies do so too. It helps us to keep abreast of what's happening around us. And that one of the reasons people like me drop by - to find out what's happening.

But then there are those of us who want to do something more. And there's just too much 'noise' to make any sense let alone get productive with what's available.

I do not see a need for other forums to have age credentials put up other than the musicians wanted/available forums at SOFT, at this point in time.

All online forums grow up. Growing up happens in stages. You don't go from being a young boy to parenthood. Well, it's certainly not advised.

The other forums as far as I see it, not that I have put much thought into it, do not need to have age credentials put in. Like I said, oldies enjoy knowing what's happening in the music scene here.

But where musicians wanted/available are concerned, I feel that there is a good case if not a need for one wher eage credentials are stipulated.

Should such a situation arise, I will still check out the <25 musician wanted/available forums just in case there is an all girl band that plays in the nude and/or lingerie and they're looking for a hard-core songwriter to work with CLOSELY.

Cheers

Ok. I've looked through the "musicians wanted/available" sections in detail and I see what you mean by noise. You're right - it is terribly messy if somebody is looking for a band to play with. Interestingly, it is even more visited than the keyboard section. So being such a highly frequented section, what you suggested can't be ignored.

Besides age categorisations, are there any other effective ways of organising it to be more "search friendly"? Splitting up into different instruments? And if by age, is above and below 25 a good cut-off?

can set it above 21 and not 25? i believe some bands hope to find guys who are over ns too. so it will be easier to differentiate between people who are schooling and people who have ORD and are working adults.

Splitting may tidy up the forum but i'm not supporting Rork's idea for separating it into >25 and <25. In my opinion, these ads should be detailed. I see not much help in separating the forum into different section and then having to check each thread one by another because their requirements are not stated clearly. Anyway, my idea is to simply advise all softies to post detailed ads and state their requirments clearly so as to connect with the 'right' musicians.

I see. Welcome to the MASS MEDIA dude! Perhaps you can talk to Sally, Sue, Tim, and Ally about it. But trying to 'educate' a mass??? Just look at some of the posts here. I've seen ads by James where he is asking people to inform him of gigs so that he can help to promote it.

Lo and behold, the thread starts receiving posts asking for informaiton on how to get into a gig. You are talking about MASS EDUCATION which is a lot more difficult than simply setting up a new forum for >25 to set up their own bands. I envy your thoughts.

No need for separate forums for different instruments. I doubt that the number of posts warrant such a segration. In fact it may help a guitarist looking for a band to tell his/her friend (a keyboardist) that a band is looking for a keyboardist. And other concoctions may happen.

It's abut growing up and growing up admirably and for the better of all involved. Like I said, there comes a time when people, homes and even virtual homes have to grow up.

I've been a moderator at one of www.creativeCOW.net's most busy forums since its inception. You have to grow. Like it or not. That is life and that is also the life of any home, virtual or not. SOFT is a home to many, virtually -thankfully ;-)

I believe I've said enuff. I leave it to James and his gang to decide if such a request is a positive move for SOFT.

On an end note (with lots of sustain and some wammy-bar effected with strong feedback), I appreciate all comments, both for and against the initial idea. We grow, we learn, We live - not in any discerneable order.

Cheers

why don't the "oldies" just cultivate a habit of putting "[Oldies]" or something in their topics in the musicans/available? Much like how people post WTB and WTS on luther's. :)

If its just a matter of looking for bandmates of similar ages, i think thats been done in a more sensible manner already i.e. prefer 21-30

I mean no offence, but its kinda silly to post something like:

[Oldie speaking] Hi, I wana form an emo pop punk band, need drummer bassist and guitarist.

I feel that things are pretty fine here in Soft, considering that we are all pretty much getting along despite age differences. Its very much like the real world, and improvements have been made many times i.e. the creation of a Bass forum, Soft Radio etc...

Slightly off topic, i'm sure that if users of this forum have encountered some form of miscommunication problem, I'm sure we've been able enough to sort things out via posts/PMs, or better yet, to just state our intentions clearly.

In this case, making James create another forum may not necessarily make life substantially easier for 'oldies', as i find that we the uncles and a few aunties have pretty much gotten by decently thus far.
