Hi every1 i have a guitar which is a ibanez jem jr. can any1 tell me how to tune this guitar accurately and prevent it from changing its tune on its own and i have changed the strings of the guitar which is custom heavy strings quite thick n the bridge became veri high may i noe hw to lower it and how to adjust the pickups or anything so that the sound would be more distorted n solid as it is too clean now even though i turn on the distortion.... Sorry as i dunno how to phrase my sentence properly as im still a beginner in guitar and this guitar is really complicated.... need help urgently thanks

What is the string gauge of your strings you are using for your ibanez right now?

The bridge is high because you are probably not using the right gauge of strings. Ibanez guitars are usually on .09s. You can use any sets of strings with the first string gauged at 9. If you use 10s or 11s, the bridge would come up. Loosen your strings quickly and replace them with 9s or the neck might give way and snap.

The sound is like that due to the strings, once you change them, it should be just fine. Try to just stick to .09s.

... Zerker, the neck won't snap, and read this too, you need it as much asaeigrox. Anyway, If anything happens to the neck, it will be a forward warp, NOT A SNAP, the truss rod is not for cosmetic purposes, use to to bend it back. And the action is high is because of the floating bridge. The thicker strings just mean that it will bring the bridge up, check the bridge, i bet it is NOT horizontal but bending forward, pushing the action up. You have to open the back and adjust the springs, this would compensate for the higher tension in the strings.

On tuning, you have to tune it slowly, when you just restring, tune every string slightly sharp, they will stretch out over the next few days, then, use the fine tuners to adjust the tuning to perfect on the bridge. Note, LOCK THE LOCKING NUTS at the headstock. They prevent your strings from going out of tune from whammy tricks.

most default guage is .09s to .42... u should buy this guage range... and yeah.. it wont snap the neck... the neck is far more stronger then the strings.. the strings would snap first... hehe

and if u are using the new MII models it would be equip with the edgeIII.. far more easier then wat it used to have... :).. if u are still not sure... best to bring down to any shop for them to set for u... it wont cost much...

o then hw to make the strings from going off tune always? i thighten de nuts le o ya and the spring behind i losen le but the string still make the bridge go so high up...

lol... this noobcake. Ur supposed to tighten the springs if the trem tilts up. Easiest way to tune is to block it at the neutral position. then tune the strings then adjust the springs at the back till u can remove the block without the trem shifting.

for beginners, I suggest you change one string at a time. Streach each string and comlpete before moving on to the next string ....should be ok

lol... you're a beginner and you got yourself a floating tremolo bridged guitar which is harder to maintain.......

It doesnt matter, i started with a floyd rose guitar too, just depends on whether you're smart enough to figure out how the damn thing works and start doing things right before you destroy anything.

I suggest u bring it down to the shop u bought it from and get it fixed...
Different string gauge hav diff pull on the bridge so it the bridge will go up and up and up til ur string snap..
The factory strings should be .009s so if u add .010 or abv the pull will be stronger than wat the gauge the guitar is set up for at the factory
the factory set up of the guitar is set for .009s

Wad u are experiencing happen to my RG, i went down to the shop and got it settled

Why not learn how to fix it... yourself?

I did that when I first started out... twice.

Then I realised, I wasn't learning, I wasn't helping myself... so I googled and I experimented and learnt.

There are threads here teaching you how to go abt restringing and there are plenty of threads online doing the same thing.

normally, i was advised not to get a guitar with floating trems (tho i must admit, it's a cool trem used by lotsa artists), so i'll stick to what i'm used to.. fixed/fixed trems bridges..

as for Aeigrox, seems like u have multiple probs with your guitar. like what everyone says here, u shld get to a guitar shop that can help you solve your probs. i think it's a bit hard for us to troubleshoot since we cant see/try out your guitar and find out what's wrong.

okay thanks i think the prob is that strings i think the string gauge that i am using is .12 the 6th string quite thick... but 1 more thing the guitar tune keep running leh i tighten the nuts at the headstock but still will run leh issit string prob???

.12s?!?!?!? WTF?! Ok, your neck will definitely warp, and the bridge will definitely move. Tighten the correct springs on your bridge and when you see the neck warp, go adjust the truss rod. I suggest you do that after changing your gauge back, if you want thick strings, try 11-52, 12s is a bit extreme, are your fingers even strong enough to do string bends?

12s on a floyd rose setup for 9s.... but are you tuning to C?

you'll need professional help but in a nutshell,

1) Tremolo springs
2) Adjust truss rod
3) Adjust action
4) Adjust intonation
5) Balance the bridge vs string tension

Floyds setups are PITAs.

u dun need professional help unless ur a dumbass. Comon its a simple concept. Neck bow forward cuz of tension in the strings. Tighten trussrod in that case. Higher guage on same tuning will mean higher tension. AFter u adjust the trussrod, do wad i said in my previous post. Den make sure everything is tight, nut, saddle blah blah. make sure u stretch ur strings oso. If your guitar still goes out of tune den its cuz ur guitar sucks, im serious.
