Hey,

Im heading off to europe really soon.
However I want to bring my ESP sawtooth....cause I mean country home=folk songs and boredom....

so i really need some help,should I
(flying Singapore Airlines)
put it in a soft case and bring it with me as hand luggage cause im flying first class..would they let me in without any hassle...

Or place it in a unbelievable ridiculiously large hard case and check it in.

please help,
thanks :)

i would recommend you to bring it with you as a check in luggage.. unless you have insurance for your guitar if not your guitar might suffer from damages..

I dun think they will allow you to check in with your luggage. THere is no space for your guitar in the in-flight luggage compartment. Just stick "Fragile" stickers on your hardcase and check in.

you really sure i cant bring it into the plane as hand luggage...cause i really dont want to bring the huge case for one thing and another that the luggage handlers most likely dont give a damn even with the fragile stickers:???::confused:

From experience, try to carry it on board with you. I usually bring guitars with me to and fro Sydney, and I always try to hand carry them. Usually, if the flight isn't fully booked you can handcarry them. But if you must check-in, SIA's fragile check in shouldn't be a problem. Make sure they do not put it with the normal luggages and actually put it with the fragile items, then it should be fine.

I think best to bring it on board, esp since ur sitting in 1st class. But do be careful where u store it, inconsiderate ppl shove their luggages into the cabin baggage compartments without looking. Once, this American idiot shoved his big hard briefcase into a luggage compartment which happened to contain an expensive Ibanez in a softcase. The guitar's neck broke and to make a long story short, the owner was real pissed and the idiot was forced to pay up. And that didn't stop him ( the retard ) frm swearing for half the 14h flight. This wasn't SIA however, it was another airline, and the guitar owner was my friend. Maybe get the most expensive and hardest hardcase money can buy and stick a heck lotta fragile stickers on it then check it in.

i think, you just get a well padded soft case, take the precautions (de string etc) then carry it onto the plane as carry on, cause you are first class you generally get special treatment, and it's SIA. just explain to them that it is a very expensive guitar and ask the stewardress to STOW IT for you in some hidden corner of the plane that they know about. It should be quite safe there. Last time i did this with a cheapo classical guitar and it came out 100% fine so i think SIA + first class should not be a problem

ahh i so wanna do this...but how is it going to go throught the scannners an so fort ???

You can carry your guitar with soft case/gig bag. I do it all the time. If you have problem at check-in counter, just say you will not carry with you. If someone is sending you, that’s better, just hand over the guitar bag and take it back later and go for security screening. No problem at all. I doubt that they will say anything to business and first class passengers. When you are onboard, just hand it over to flight attendant, they will put that in cloak room. Its safe, I don’t even loosen the strings.

ermm what scanners? if you mean the standard x ray thing, just put it through? it's a guitar not an explosive? even the most obnoxious airport security bloke would be hard pressed to find a regulation that bars it on a flight (correct me if i am wrong, but i don't think i am) and just let them know it's a guitar, you'll have to scan it but it's not a living thing so i don't think the x ray machine will damage it?

or if you are really worried about talking to the people then you can do what retailers do when shipping guitars - pack it in cardboard box, packlots of styrofoam inside, double wrap it till it becomes a monstrosity thats like 3x bigger than your guitar, it should be safe unless someone decides to poke it with a large knife.

yeah don't worry it's a guitar, it will not be a problem one

hmm. i flew with china eastern from singapore to shanghai, and i had my les paul with a hardcase. i just brought it onboard, and they did not even bother scanning the thing. they just asked me to open the case and show them what was inside. (changi airport security) On the plane, i just shoved it into the overhead compartment, and there was no problem. so if i flew china eastern, economy. SIA, first class should be no problem at all

Nah, just bring it in with you, should be fine. Moreover, you're flying first class so no hassle at all. The rules and regulations are just there.

I always bring my guitar onboard as carron-on luggage (I travel quite a bit) and I haven't had any problems so far. And i fly the shitty Dutch KLM so SIA should be cool with it :)
