i m looking at some amp but it with 110v input voltage
Any one had experience with with such amp using locally with a step down transformer

Saw on Home fix with a power socket converter - like a power plug look alike -
which you plug it into the power socket then it will convert from 240v to 110v
is it safe?? to AMP usage?

The term is called "step-down" not "transform" and converter are used to convert AC source to DC source. So be careful of what you buy.....check out with the Home-Fix DIY staff if the transformer steps down our local 230VAC mains to 110VAC...
110VAC is your amp working voltage rite?Check the specs near the input plug...some input mains has a selector to choose 110VAC to 240VAC...

Hope that helps you...;)

Another 3 options:

Extract transformer:

(a) bring to Randolf for him to inspect and see if there are export market 220v,230v or 240v taps,

(b) ask Ceriatone in Malaysia if he can wind a 230v version for you as supposedly his amps have locally wired transformers. He might need to inspect the transformer, always email first to clarify before sending pls,

(c) send to Mercury Magnetics and they will measure and wind an improved and brand new transformer for you. They are especially proud of the quality of the transformers that they can wind and send to you. Looking at 1-2 week turnaround. Pricing is not cheap, maybe USD 250-300.

You can email Ceriatone's main man Nik....he will respond to any queries whatsoever without fail within a matter of hours or the next day!!

This is pretty easy. Just go to Sim Lim tower and buy a step down transformer. Might cost you around 50 bucks, depending on the wattage. I'm using it for both my amps which are 110 volts. Mine's Newstar brand and its been working for years.

if you are looking for a step down transformer for an amp
you must buy one that has sufficent capacity to handle the wattage required by your amp
calculate by using your amps rating ( usually stated on back of amp )
110volts x amperes = waltage requirement ( i think : )

for running those small effects etc ( wall warts adapter )
most normal step down can take it ........

does stepping down (or up) affect sound quality whatsoever? I assume not, but there's probably some fanatical audio cult that believes it might... :)

transformer

screw sim lim! I bought one from there and it smoked my Whammy pedal! Go to a reputable place instead...i have had nothing but lemon crap from sim lim...not worth the hassle!
i bought a 1000 watt newstar that is reliable from harvey norman...it works great. Good Luck!

one of the more well known or perhaps "lengend-fied" usage of varying voltage with geetar gear was Eddie van halen.

of him using a variac to alter the perforamance of his amp to get those sound back in early days
