How to survive without theory knowledge?

Don't get me wrong, I think theory makes it so much easier, and makes a musician's life more productive. I'm very lazy, so i should learn theory to get to a level which i want. But I haven't.

Some people go thru classical training when they are 4, and become prodigist classical players when they are 10. Others pick up an electric guitar/bass when they hit secondary school and jam till they are fluent musicians when they are 21. Where does the need for theory knowledge really kick in? Can you guys shed some light on this topic?

I personally feel that it helps a lot with compositions, and learning to read "tau geh" notes allows one to venture into more classically based songs. But then again, it really isn't a necessity. Play with your heart and you'll still sound good regardless whether you know theory or not :D

If you have the opportunity to pick it up, give it a go, definitely an asset to every musician ;)

just play what ur made of lah.. ur own style.. heck care noe theory or not... i think technique comes first :x and theory come ABIIIIT BIT after technique..

maybe im those that rather havin some result den talk wif mouth and dono how to play at all

any way.. theory does help to set u on the 'right path' so.. for the start.. better learn some theory.. i started without much theory.. and realli played sucky.. nowadays im learnin some theory though.. and i feel gooooooooooooooooooooood :p

the harder it is, the harder you strive and further you go

the harder it is, the harder you strive and further you go

without music theory, you'll strive harder and the harder you strive,
the further you go.

majority of the established musicians do not have theory background,
they learn as they play and the harder they strive, the further they go.

go with your dreams, go with your heart - dream into action!
