i recently form a band and im the lead singer at the moment as we have nt found one yet... i can sing those part 1 its low or normal pitch but i cant sing the higher pitch i will (zao xia)... how to prevent that or hw to practice to prevent that from happening

start with proper diaphram breathing techniques first.
then practise reaching higher and higher notes, from forcetto to head voice
learn to walk before you run, if not you'll end up hurting your throat.

oic breathe by the nose out from mouth or issit mouth and out from mouth or nose out from nose cos i always cant get the proper breathing technique

practise by singing along with the cd - if u can sound close to the singer ..u're on your way

hm....

if you want to learn from singers.. try the song turely madly deeply... i start from there... cheers... then is one night in beijing lol

more..

if going for head voice.. you can try you raise me up.. then all combine u can try dont want to close your eyes..oh ya when going for high pitch remenber to take note of your breathing tech.. DO NOT let out too much air to your throat or you will get sore thorat after 2 songs.. once u pratice till maybe 2 months you get the hang of it.. just like 1 +1 =2.. so take note.. breathing is basic but a powerful weapon!

What i was taught about breathing. You got to inhale it all the way into your stomach instead of into the chest. Then push it out from there.
Breathing is done through the mouth.

I think you can take journey's ex singer steve perry for reference. The way he does the high notes is damn clear, powerful yet not strained.

If you watch closely, you can see how he breathes and the way he shapes his mouth to project out the notes.

Hope it helps.

ONE NIGHT IN BEIJING ROCKS!!

How come you didn't sing that song the other day?

Andy can definitely sing in very high pitches!

Go and get a lesson from him.

Bro LobinHoot, in this video he sang what I'd call a high-pitch cheat.

As in you open your throat more and you get more of the 'oooooo' sound, albeit in the same pitch. It is used so as not to strain the voice repeatedly, a technique needed in 'live' performances to preserve the voice, while still maintaining the colour of the songs and not improvise too much.

I don't know how to really explain to you here lah.

Chris, its falsetto :D

opps yea my bad..
anyway, when practising high pitched songs,
if your throat starts to feel pain or strained, stop for awhile aye =D
i injured my vocal chords before and i know how bad it feels xDD

with so many advices from pros (otherthanme) you cant go wrong
good luck!

Sorry don't know much about theory. But for me, drink more Bombay Saphire, Tequila, Chivas, Martell, Gordon Dry Gin, Captain Morgan, etc..etc..Hehehehe!!

woah this is very cheem. please explain. Refering to hecklor's theory

Hmmm... how ah?

It's like you open up your throat more rather than close it, but still on the same key.

When you sing in high-pitch naturally, you'd close and tighten your vocal chords and the result is usually 'rich' but when you open up your throat, it sounds more 'simulated'.

I know nothing about music theory and I've never been vocally trained professionally but I do notice this technique which some singers use.

See!! That's what I mean.. and that's why i started the whole vocal hangout... o_o

I think there's a bit of a confusion in asking for help in its higer range, and trying to hit the falsetto.. go easy on the theory tips, they're good but I don't think the poster has any idea what you guys are talking about. LOL

If the poster's actually asking for a falsetto, then the technique is actually quite the opposite of open throat, and less tasking / faster to learn..

My only suggestion right now is to keep trying along with the song, which is FGL's technique.. in layman's terms, your range hasn't expanded into that "section" yet, so constant practice to try "hit" the notes will open it up. It's simple, and it's just a good technique to getting the notes memorised into your head before you could even attempt hitting them in the right key. (There's a saying that "thinkin" the note will help you "hit" the note.)

The only problem with this technique is you might strain your voice, so IMMEDIATELY when your throat starts to hurt, stop singing and talking, drink some warm water and rest for about an hour or two. No oily food, try not to cough / clear your throat, just swallow. Rest them cords :}

Tone, sustaining it, etc would be coming under the tips most of us has mentioned here. The more "advanced" stage.

Tetra's techniques might work, but I always thought the balls-squeezing were a cheaper alternative :P You guys ah... wanna turn the vocalists into alcoholics ar? LOL
