How to power multiple pedals?

Hi im wondering how do i supply power to all of my pedals? i have 4 at the moment. Can i just use an adapter and a daisy chain to connect all the pedals, or must i purchase a "supply" unit like a boss tu-2 or a voodoo lab?
Thanks for the help :)

The TU-2 is a tuner O.o, dont know how you'd power multiple pedals with a tuner. Yup, you can either use a power supply with daisy chain or a supply unit like the vodoo labs. The Daisy Chain would be the cheaper alternative but the regulated power supply would be better such as the Voodoo Lab, Modtone Power Plant and whatnot

the tu-2 supply thingy is just a glorify dc chain output. The main power source still come from a power adaptor plug into the tu-2.

to share supply from power adaptor(one spot, biyang etc), do check and make sure of the power spec of the pedal is compatible and within the spec of the adaptor.

but where does the TU-2 get the power from? It's still a tuner, not an adapter

Some tuners have the option of a Power OUT, that way it can power other effects. Of course it gets it's power from whatever is supplying it (battery/adaptor).

Maybe you can state your pedalchain TS. Some pedals require isolated outputs (with some fuzzes) and hence cannot be daisy chained.

Of course it still has to have a power supply but if the adapter is the regular boss adapter for example, it can't power more than 1 pedal. Not really a fan of using a tuner to power pedals tho haha.

the boss one can power more than one boss pedal with a dc chain(more commonly refered to as daisy chain), provided that all the current drawn value in miliAmpere across all the pedals add up together, is lower than what the power adaptor has to offer.

the rating of the adaptor is usually indicated on the power adaptor itself. From the picture below, note the rating, pri is primary source(230volt AC, which is what the adaptor is receiving from the electrical outlet in our home. Sec is secondary, which is the output of the adaptor thats fed to the pedals, at 9volt DC, 200miliampere rating. 200mA is the total current value available to the effect pedal.

For boss pedal and most of the mass produced pedals, 9vdc rating is pretty much a standard rating, the difference will be in the current drawn value which, for most boss deal are in the region of single digit mA rating to double digit mA rating.

All pedals will only draw whats needed for the operation. As long as the total amount of current drawn value across all the pedals sharing the dc chain(with 1 adaptor), is lower than the 200mA rating of the adaptor, there should not be any problem. Problem comes in the form of damaged power adaptor when all the pedals in the chain are drawing more then 200mA, which the adaptor cannot cope and overwork to its death, burnt smell included. I did try many many years ago using 2 daisy chain with one boss adaptor to power 8 boss pedals, it works, but the adaptor quite hot after a while, so didnt really test the limit of how long it can last.

Another thing to look at, is the logo of the adaptor barrel with positive and negative sign. That one, also much match the adaptor and pedal power jack. Again, for boss pedal and most common pedals, its always needing a center negative supply.

To answer your question, we first need to know how many pedals are in your chain.
But these are the two most common (or two only?) methods.
Either power adaptor--->daisy chain (normally powers 5 pedals~)
OR power adaptor---> pedal power supply (DC brick, cioks etc)----> pedals (depending on size/required voltage, can be from 5-12~)

Eg, Cioks Schizo powers ~6 pedals, while the Dunlop DC Brick can power 10 9v and 2 18v.
You can also combine 2 9vs in a DC brick to power 1 18v.

Wow thanks guys really helpful, esp PatheinRaindropMoe :)
The pedals i currently have are boss sd-1, boss dd-20, digitech screamin blues and biyang eq-7.
I plan to get a few more to complete my set. now i know i dont have to waste money on a redundant tuner thanks

i've been using the biyang noiseless from sv for quite a while now. has not given me problems and its affordable too.
