how to keep stratocaster in tune after whamming?

so guys how do i keep my stratocaster in tune after using the whamy bar?im using a traditional 6 saddle bridge(not a 2 point bridge with 3 springs at the back)will just stretching the strings do?

Or simply lubricate the grooves between the nut + stretch strings.

Sad... the gotoh floyd roses... no moe locking posts I heard. Wonder if Vincent brought in those with the locking posts...


Anyway... trem stability has to do with technique also. Not a lot but it matters somewhat. After using the trem, it helps to do a (very) quick pull up... or end your vibrato phrases on a pull-up. This forces the strings back in place.

Even on a floyd rose system, doing dives and just returning to pitch would leave you with a very slightly de-tuned guitar.. very slightly. So I make it a habit to end my whammy stuff with a pull up.

Of course, this doesn't matter if you don't have a well lubed nut and stuff.

another good replacement is the wilkinson VSVG bridge, as used on the andy timmons signature.

Vincent, where's that shop???

eh, installing a floyd rose into your strat is NOT cheap at all. And is NOT reversible. and is NOT recommended unless you're 10000% sure u wanna do it.

I would do this

1. Buy a set of planet waves locking tuners and install. While stringing up the guitar, take a mechanical pencil and then rub on the string slots on the nut. Pencil lead = graphite = lube.

2. Wank on the whammy and see if it plays in tune. Make sure you read the damn manual on how to use the planet waves locking tuners properly.

This should improve your tuning stability a few folds provided that your current bridge is ok and the spring tension are aye ok.

The tuners are available at Davis. Solution given, go go.... do it.
