Hm, sorry to use the thread...

So Stratocaster is better at playing blues kind of music ( I dunno if I get this right )

Then how other kind of guitar suits with? eg. LP, Flying V...

the strat was deemed as the most versatile guitar. some agree, some disagree. i AGREE!

the strat is great for blues and rock. LP can do blues, rock and jazz, metal too, but strat is better for blues and rock imo. flying V, hendrix used it for his music, and so did ??BBking?? for blues. and modern flying V for metal.

it depends what u use it for and what u like. for me i like the single coil sounds of a strat and love it even more when it's driven.

id recommending getting a jap strat from ishibashi.

+1

Many people start off buying starter packs when actually they can afford much better guitars.Since you have about 1.5k to spend. Getting a good amp is a good option. I wouldnt suggest going for a starter pack. If you are really keen to learn and practise consistently, you will outgrow your starter guitar quite soon and start to wish for other gear.

My 2 cents :)

A nice Guitar might seem alot more appealing, but in the long run(whether you give up or not), a good Amp would do alot better; more resale value and more practical.

Get a good amp, and a cheap strat copy (like the SX; it fits the genre anyway) and optimistically, move on and then upgrade into a better strat or something else that might catch your eye(you might buy a strat and then start GASing for a les paul, and even the other way round).

SX is good for beginners ... I know cause i used it for quite long .. But of course you should get a good amp to go with it, the starter pack amp sucks balls way more than any other low end amp i've ever tried(mg15 for example)

i'd say spend on a good home practise amp, like a vox 15R, $188 nia... and get an average guitar, maybe and ibanez thats above $400...

spend a bit more on pedals like a boss ds-1, and use the rest of ur money on lessons... no use getting freaking expensive gears when u play crap...

everytime i wanna buy stuff i keep reminding myself... is my skill worth my equipments? like i wanna get an evo humbucker, or an echo park, or a 4 × 12 cab, or those ferraglide which cost $100... any form of GAS... i keep reminding myself of how good jerryC sounded when he played a $400 guitar (on youtube), how good vai sounded when he used that cheap $900 JEM, how good those pros sounded in the shops when they didn't used any pedals...

skill = priceless

chester277, wad's e shop name? do they sell like all brands of guitars, ibanez epi etc.. isit better value for $$ than swee lee or more ex?

How about a 2nd-hand made-in-mexico Fender Stratocaster. I got mine for $450. Usually see people selling these on luthier classified at around $500. You can upgrade to better pickups later on.

I also started playing at 18, now I'm 24. Although I still far from being a kick-ass guitarist but I always looked back and thought I could have been much better if I had worked harder.

So if you worked you butt off on practising, I believed you can be pretty decent within 3-4 years. I only took up lessons recently and I feel that a good teacher is definitely a great investment.

I started to learn the electric guitar seriously for only a year and i'm now 25. Age doesn't really matter. It's never too late to learn guitar. It's the passion dude.

FenderJapan from Ishibashi is a good choice.

With your 1.5k budget, you should be able to get a good guitar, cable and amp. Might be able to squeeze in a good distortion/overdrive pedal to rock also. If you're the type who'll be motivated by a good overall sound by all means skip the starter pack and go for it.

For the Ibanez RG321WB check out subversion's review here.

You may want to check out the SZ320 too.

My first electric guitar is my main electric guitar. Thank God I happened to purchase a very well made and mojo-fied MIJ Ibanez Saber. That was 3 1/2 years back. Today, its serving me well and no issues with reliability whatsoever. Thinking back, that $1k on it was well worth it.

IMHO, if you're genuinely serious, do consider going for a standard strat straightaway, not that im a strat user, but lookin at most of my friends who got a straight instead of veering towards the starter pack route. plus a decent peavey studio amp, those <90W amps, u should be able to do fine.

i started out, getting swooned by the @#$@#$% starter kit, and it was a rollercoaster for me, i liked it, then hated it cos of the tremolo system, then made the most unfortunate mistake of getting a zoom multi fx pedals. i guess its a personal thing, but im so not gonna get myself another multi fx pedal. then now after getting my tele and playing it for a few years, i longed for the feel of @$^*@*$&^'s fast neck.

so its really up to you how u wanna partition your 1.5k. you could get a deent ibanez RG, get urself a POD and a cube amp, or fall for the starter pack, its really up to you. 8)

wow everything look so strange to me, i cant understand 80% of the words u guy are saying 8O I decided to get a mid-entry guitar. My friend just given me his marshall amp for free  I told him i wanna play paul gilbert, and he recommend me ibanez rg321 and hammer californian series. Are they good?

so many worries!!....just do what u feel like man...ps i suggest u save up your money and learn on your own for a loong time before u go to ateacher..basics of guitar are very easy to pick up online

RG 321 is good ... I would advise it, being your first guitar you might want to stay away from Floyd rose equipped guitars.
