How much does it cost to replace sticky key of Clavinova?

for key repair, yamaha service staff charges $88 per trip. how many keys they can repair per trip i am not sure. but i am sure not all 88 keys.
changing the whole keyboard assembly costs $190 including labour, trip, GST, part, install... ie, supply and install. this is the option i take. also yamaha provides 1 year warranty for the keyboard.
i also asked if i can buy the part (whole keyboard assembly) from yamaha and DIY install by myself. they said no.

for $190, they will supply and change this:
the part is called "GH88". model no is GHD/HED. the whole assembly comes as one piece with PCB on the bottom. looks to me like a generic graded hammer 88 keys keyboard for all pianos. very heavy. but changing is quite straightforward: unscrew and take out the old keyboard, put inside the new one then screw every back. they are not changing the 88 keys one by one.
one thing i realized is, the new keyboard they supplied is an "improved" version. of course not the GH3 but the feeling is much much better than my original stock keyboard. . softer, gental, quieter, i feel i got a whole new piano. haha...well i think the new keyboard is same as the current Clavinova models (not GH3 though) in yamaha showroom.

nice oops just found on ebay that someone (in germany) selling the same brand new assembly for about S$50...that was about the part cost i guess... :roll: i know yamaha does sell part in uk and germany but unfortunately not in singapore...

Jeffery, it may cost you more than $88 transporting a Clavinova to and back from the Service Center yourself! Not to mention running into danger of damaging it.
Liuhao, I guess your Clavinova will not be compatible with GH3 even if you want to upgrade to GH3. They added extra sensors to the GH3 like damper positions, which your model of Clavinova may not recognise.

Oh I see. I guess that should be as easy as changing the keys of the Clavinova, which was what liuhao was referring to in this thread.
The keys of the synth range may be cheaper though since they are not graded but balanced. Yamaha has wisely changed their entire synth line into balanced hammer action. Roland and Korg stubbornly stuck to being graded/progressive hammer for all the synth line. In reality, when we use workstations and synths, we use them for also sequencing. And graded/progressive keys + sequencing = nightmare since one will have a difficult time trying to get a balanced response when sequencing tracks. Yamaha had the brains to move to balanced action and use graded only in their digital/stage piano line of keyboards (CP and P series etc).
Anyway, that was a side-track. So chainging Yamaha balanced keys should be cheaper than graded keys, if you should ever need to do that.
But liuhao, I'm curious about one thing. Your Clavinova is only 3 years old and the keys got into trouble? That sounds like a short time.

indeed. i was quite disappointed by the original keyboard. it was used very moderate. i checked the sticky keys after the original keyboard was taken out. the inner side of the plastic key got crack and loose out that's why they are sticky. i searched the web and found i am not the only one who has this problem for this model. yamaha seems know about this problem so in some countries in europe, they actually changed the keyboard assembly for customers for free. the new keyboard assembly is an improved version with better material.

I have the same problem now ...the technician just came and went and he quoted me about SGD$700 ! for the change of keyboard and replacement work.
Mine is a graded keys as well.
