how do touring guitarists take care of their gear?

been thinking about this. touring from city to city, state to state, country to country is very grueling not only for musicians but their gear as well. temperature/humidity fluctuations, bumpy roads that can cause impact/shock to gear etc are unavoidable. so how do touring guitarists protect their gear from damage while touring from gig to gig?

I've read that bands like Metallica have 2 to 3 separate rigs. The reason for this is that the rigs will be at the next gig before the bands even get a move on to the next location.

So having said that I would assume that their gears spend most of their time in racks and flight cases flying more than half the time they outside their cases.

Linkin Park has two rigs, that are exactly the same. One is located with them in the US and the other is permanently based in Europe. More convenient, and they can afford it, I suppose. Most professional bands are like that I suppose.

And like the others mentioned, they take care of their gear by having their roadies and guitar technicians do it for them.

I just came back playing in KL. Man, taking care of your gear is really tiring. I had a luggage bag full of gadgets and my guitar in a softcase. I thank god for Jetstar in allowing me to handcarry my guitar.
