Honestly, do you stay to watch the other bands?

As above. It may well be because you're in this open genre gig where you find that you're the only electronica band amidst a sea of screamo bands so you're just not interested to stay and listen (just an example, no offence to any screamo bands)? Or it's not so interesting to stay through watching a band whom you've never heard before? Or the gig is just so damn freaking long that after awhile everything you hear sounds the same.

There are so many excuses for us to come and go and not listen. I am guilty of coming and going after my own show too sometimes. But for the few times we stayed and listen, there were always something new to see and learn.

What do you think?

Anyway I've got this FB group called "Hear Here" that is trying to promote bands to listen out for one another and exchange goodies at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=71187517791&ref=ts, do join.

I always make it a point to try and stay to watch the bands performing before/after my band's set. It's to show support and respect to the other bands. Besides that, I'll never know what new stuff I can learn from the other bands from watching them. So I stay to watch and learn! :D

Unless really like feeling hungry, then I'll rush out to grab a bite before returning lah lol.

Yes I do too. It's just that my other half of my mind isn't there during other bands playing.

Too tired from all that moshing LOL.

I kinda dislike bands who perform with other bands in a show who don't watch the rest of the bands playing.

Goes out to crowds too. Where is that support.

agree.
it would be nice for the bands playing to at least stay for an hour or so after their set & watch the other acts

yah... many of the band do dat now... they only come for their set and then leave...
atleast stay and wacth some band la and show support....

kinda sad...

I played at a gig where my band was not only given the last slot, but the whole thing was delayed by 2 hours because the bands playing before us had members that were late. And that's not all. The bands left after their sets and by the time my band got to play, we were like literally playing to our friends and a handful of the logistics.

i usaully make it point to watch the bands performing before and after. and for bigger shows, i make it a point to watch the opening bands, and not wander off to buy drinks/food etc

Sometimes it's better to have all the bands soundcheck before the show starts so that they will all at least reach early? Anyway I just organized a gig which is trying to encourage artistes to interact and stay around, http://soft.com.sg/forum/musicians-...-gardens-calling-all-diversed-musicians.html . Still looking for performers

It's free to play and watch, but there's a serious lack of equipments cos I'm just some small fry trying to get things to happen. Really hope you kind softies would help me out on that somehow.

anyone can come and go as they please. they have their reasons and you have to respect that.

if watching the band compensates their time forgone and they are willing to stay, then credit to the band.

if people have somewhere to go or something to do, it is not the band's fault.

so either way, the band can only benefit. no need to get upset or take things personally. no need to have so much self importance or misplaced pride.

the worse thing you want is for people to stay even though they hate it. they will just hate the band. if it were my band i definitely wouldn't want that. i would want to know how bad my band is. it doesn't matter to me how much people love my band. it only matters to me why my band isn't so good that they would stay to watch. and then i improve, instead of stagnating in some cesspool mediocrity (i.e. local music).

but then again i am not some dumb immature kid so what do i know

I used to have this encounter, I've done my performing part, so I thought my band and I should stay behind to at least watch 2-3 other bands before we left for party. Then this guy come to me (He's performing later btw) and said;

"Hey, aren't you the frontman from just now? Why still stay down here? Never go off ar?"

So I said "I stick around awhile more, since there are other bands who watch us plays, so we shld too.. I guess" and I lol-ed..haha

"Stay for what? Waste time, we perform finish then we go liao.."

.... "Oh ok" then I pretended talking to my bandmates.

Sometimes I just see many bands not enthusiastic on supporting other bands, such as they boo-ed at other bands for variating cover melodies, never applause, give black face. etc. They more of seeing other bands as their competitors instead of comrades.

That's normal, but its unhealthy :???: I guess..lol

Bands come, friends come. Bands perform, friends enjoy. Friends leave. Bands leave to hang out with friends just to soak themselves in their friend's adoration.

But I have to admit. After performing a set, I usually would give the first song or two of the band after mine a miss. Need to shake off the rush...

I'd definitely watch if the band is good. I usually hang around outside and listen to what's going on inside, if I think it's good, I go in.
