High end Solid state amp or Low end tube amp?

Thanks a lot for the great advice everyone.
Subversion I like your advice :D

Well, yes I have a bunch of dirt pedals all modded to my liking , which sounded great on my current SS amp ( a crappy Peavey Bandit 112 ), Ive spent years shaping my tone with my pedals on this SS amp.

However, Ive started gigging more often now and am considerably disappointed by the equipment offered at popular gigging areas, and would prefer to take my own amp there. Since you guys say tube amps are good at higher volumes,I guess thats good for me, primarily because I am going to use it more as a gigging amp than a practice amp.

Im basically looking for a medium gain amp (on the higher end of medium gain) which can enter the high gain territory if pushed by pedals.

What do you guys think of the Peavey XXX? The complaint I have heard so far is that the cleans are rather dull on that. That is ok, I will use my fender super 60 or Vox AD30VT for my cleans and switch to my 'to be' new tube amp just for the dirt channel.

The bandit 112 has gotten some good reviews... I've heard one at bedroom levels and it didn't disappoint.

Perhaps you want to bring it to your next jam, give it a try out.

Or swap speakers.

Bringing tube amps here and there... heavy, possibly more fragile and just... inconvenient, even with transportation.

the amount of volume a tube amp generates....is something that confuses a lotta ppl....

all for tube amps..not solid state...the kinda volume u get from a tube amp clean and from a pushed tube amp...is really different....u gotta play to know....a 5 watt tube amp is something u cant use in your room...it would be insanely loud...that is if you want some nice gain and hear the power tubes..if not...a 100W might also be fine....20-30 watts would be more than enough for giggin....at medium size venues..the bigger venues would definitely be mic'd anyways....

hope i made sense....all info taken from amptone

hmmm .. id say just go for tube.

for your budget you can buy my pimped up 5150 combo and head
then you can proceed to kill your neighbours. :)
kidding la , its not for sale.

but you can really get a decent tube amp for 1.2k

@ShredCow : You really think the peavey is decent?? Id rather buy a Marshall MG over it ! Anyone for trades?

Lugging along the amp is no problem also la I dont find it a troublesome issue at all, but head-cabinet versions make it worse though.

Ok, now that Ive decided to go all tube, There was this gentleman offering me a Peavey Ultra 112 on soft. I googled a bit and since I couldnt find it on the peavey webpage, I figured that it was out of production. And personally, Harmony Central reviews are something which I would not swear by. I guess I will go try the 112, and also the XXX offered to mme by another person.

Im spending more time thinking about my gear than studying.. :?
