Hi all!

I like Slash, Malmsteen, Michael Angelo Batio, Satch, Vai, and Paul Gilbert.

im just starting out on guitar, and I have a budget of 499 dollars, and I want to get a guitar and amp and a pedal that can make me sound like them!

Recommendations please!

ummmmmmm

first off those guys all have various different guitars and obviously different guitar tones.

Multi-efx perhaps, and a 15-watter practise amp?

But $499 is hard to get all three man :?

Hmm.

^^ as you mentioned those players are dynamic and have equally dynamic tones which all differ from one another.

And Multi-efx don't come cheap either... unless you're referring to the less-than-desirable Digitech RP series (pardon me if this sounds harsh and blunt, but I've yet to hear an objectively good review about this series of MFX).

All in all, $499 is a very tight budget that would have difficulties finding even a decent mid-range guitar 2nd hand.

Some things just come a a price aye?

nickyseow, 499 will get you NOWHERE, don't waste your money on those craptacular beginner plywood things....

Give up.

$499 cannot make it to your dreams.

Forget it.

Go learn how to skateboard, cheaper.

499, can be done! There's a shop in the UK that sells those smaller scale foam replicas and marshall stacks posters. Get them and the cds of the artistes that you had mentioned, play cd and prance around.

CONFIRM SOUND LIKE THEM! :supz:

HAHA.

hey shredcow, Daphne Koo is my coursemate at Ngee Ann Poly. though i dont know her personally since she is from another cohort, but always see her around.

wah, i can still remember how she was supposed to be in my class man. saw the class list and was surprised to see her name. but later dont know why she changed to another class.

i am just wondering...

do you know her? why the sudden desire to play for her?

Eh, I said, play FOR her, not play with her.

WHERE GOT HORNY?!?!

Just realised I could do with some selling out you see. I'll do emo. I'll do pop/punk. I'll even *gasp* not solo for songs!

jamie-vai, I just wanna play mean teenaged-angst-fueled-attituded-songs.

oops, sorry.

went off topic.

anyway, just to share my experience.

when i first started, i bought a cheapskate Ibanez guitar from a soft deal. it was brother leecs.

eh, for $200 bucks, got steve vai authentic signature on it ok!

then i bought a marshall MD series 15 CDR for $199.

but i realised the guitar really cant do shit for me after awhile. the steve vai signature can admire, but the guitar's playability really cannot make it la.

so, i got another second hand offer, this time an Ibanez GRG270. and its been with me since. so yar, the damage for this guitar is $300.

my suggestion would be to search for a second hand guitar deal and get a modelling amp like line 6 spider.

try to get second hand deals la, then there is still hope for your $499.

and anyway, i think its quite impossible to get the various tones of the above players laa. i am sure some people spent even $4999 trying to achieve those tones.

BUT, dont be limited by your budget! if you are determined, spent $49 buy a TGM acoustic guitar also can practice.

the tone is in the player also mah.

nicky, look at your siggy la. there is no pedal to get u that someone's tone. neither will 1 multiefx and one guitar. it all comes together for a price.

BUT!!!!! got hope. go daiso, everything always 2 dollah!!

shredcow!!! u gonna start collecting guitar picks instead of chalk dust?? think of all the music that's been lost!!!! all the individual notes!!!

I think instead of buying starter pack and all that stuff ... maybe should try buying a kinda better guitar ... and for me the important ones ... buy IBANEZ TB 15 its enough (toneblaster 15) dont buy effects first cuz toneblaster amp give a decent overdrive in the amp ... so that means say 150 for amp 300 for guitar .. should be able to get the kinda sound u want

Note: Threadstarter is "new to guitar". So...even if he have Malmsteen/Gilbert's rig, do you think it'll sound good when he play on it?

*Save up abit more and get a decent amp/guitar that will last you for couple of years. Keep a lookout on Soft or Luther's classified ads. Cheers.
