well, shreding is easy.. messy fingers moving all over the damn place playing any notes in the chromatic scale and ending in the chord's root...
BUT, shreding CLEANly is what many many people fail to do... make a point to start out slow, and train ur fingers to not move too far away from the fret board...
if u start out fast, and THINK u can shred... playing sloppy and dirty will be a very hard bad habit to kick...
i nearly went into that, but luckily a lot of my better friends pointed out that my shreding is too unclean... so now i've slowed down and start to build on speed slowly... playing cleanly comes 1st...
there are other tricks to make u seem like u're shredding cleanly... like palm muting all or notes lightly when do alternate picking... but nah... don't bother... leanr the legit way! haha
