HELP! My Craftsman GS200 is completely moldy!

After a few years of not touching my axe, I took it out of long storage today. To my shock the whole guitar is filled with mold, despite being in its case untouched.

Is the guitar gone case? LOL. Or can I still save it without spending a lot of money to bring it to a repair shop?

Heheh... This is the first time i ever heard such a case. I had some mouldy gig bags but never the guitar itself. Why don't you try to remove the strings...etc and give it a clean? I think that should do it. IMO. Btw, just curious.. how long has it been in storage? That guitar must be crying and wailing all along.. Hahah!

Just clean the mold off using guitar polish. Not that big a problem. next time throw in a few sachets of silica gel inside the case just in case (no pun intended).

If I were you, I would check whether my neck is warped or whether my electronics are working.

In any case, spending more time playing the guitar would be a better investment in the long run haha.

yeah pictures would help. we don't know where it's mouldy at. if it's just superficial then it's perfectly fine. but most likely as relinquish69 said all the electronics would be gone. time to upgrade. excuses to spend money are always good.

Best thing for curing mold once it's there is sunlight. Don't know what the weathr has been like in Singapore of late, but try leaving it out in the sun and out of it's case to let it dry out a bit. Leave the case open too - you can vacuum that once the mold starts to dry out and die.

With the electronics, buy a can of contact cleaner and spray the pots and switches. Also spray some on a jack and put it in an out of the guitar socket a few times to remove any surface corrosion.

Hope this helps.

Mark.

Had some mold growing on the fretboard of my old guitar before, just cleaned it with a dunlop fretboard cleaner then with lemon oil and it never came back!
