Heavy guitar sound.....

well heavy body does not equal to heavy sound man.. i would say its the pickups and amp... gain and EQ ... people want to achieve a heavy crushing chug from their small solid state amps.. which is simply quite impossible.. you can sound kinda like it... at low volumes... but the real thing is still high gain tube amp cranked hard.

neck thrus do claim to offer more sustain... but they are also irreplacable if anything should happen to your guitar neck... high end manufacturers like vigier and tom anderson all use bolt ons.. ( i think of it as a clear indication that it simply works )

They actually do... many electric guitarist neglect that guitar's weight do play a part. There're a couple of les paul with weight relief hole and they sound thinner than a normal les paul. The guitar's body weight affects how the pickups sing.

Of course... there're other factors playing a part in how a guitar sounds, like the amp, the pickups etc. You can't get a heavy sound with a relatively light body. This is what i believe in.

Small solid state amps can produce reasonable chug (albeit with a boost of some kind).

One of my first amps was a Squier 15W practice thing. I had a Boss Digital Metalizer and together they created some serious thrash! :)
