Hey, just inquiring. How would one know which head to match with which cab? Is there anything important I would have to look out for if buying separately/different brands (specs, impeadance, ohms what-nots)? Really appreciate the help. Thanks lots guys.

well ... as for the tone reslting from mixing and matching cabs...

based on my very limited knowledge theres a few things to note

closed/open back
size of speaker 10" , 12" , 15"
number of speakers 4x12 , 2x12 , 1x12 , 2x10 , 4x10 etc..
cabinet wood/construction

as for the resistance Ohms and electrical stuff.... you need MIKEMANN

additional info also will be from SUBVERSION.

hey there 8)

when it comes to head-cab matching, there's no sure formula. tone-wise, it's about the speakers & the cab's wall thickness.

the primary concern though is to see if the head's default impedence would match your cab choice, should these be from different brand names. these days, cabs feature a variable impedence switch which would match many 1X12/ 2X12/ 4X12 models. the switch also caters for combos, should you choose to acquire additional cab to expand/ vary your tone, like i did with my Peavey XXL + Marshall 2X12 here:
