h1n1 in singapore

First SARS victim in Singapore was a woman, and now first H1N1 victim is also a woman. Not blaming woman here....just statistics :)

Aiyah, women are weaker mah. I don't think H1N1 is also the last type of infectious deadly airbourne disease in our world. Many more to come.

Closing off contact with the rest of the world isn't going to solve any problems in the long run - it will just create new ones, economical, political and social.

What we Singaporeans need to do now is to adopt the correct health measures to STOP the flu from going out of control. So wash your hands, clean up after yourself, and don't forget to cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. A little goes a long way in containing this mofo. ;)

If you look at the statistics, I highly doubt that H1N1 is going to be extremely deadly, especially compared to diseases such as SARS. The death toll percentage is quite low, and its written in the papers that the percentage of deaths can't even surpass that of the seasonal flu other countries experience. It's more contagoius, but not as deadly.

Alas, all the preparation for this day has come to fruition. Now hopefully the medics would do swift and desicive action. Because if my camp gets this, i'm going to be confined for two weeks straight. And that sucks, cause I have no bunk either.

Taken from a health site:

Though scientists have begun to relax about the initial toll, they're considerably less comfortable when taking into account the fall flu season. They remain haunted by the experience of 1918, when the relatively mild first wave of flu was followed several months later by a more aggressive wave.

The longer the virus survives, the more chances it has to mutate into a deadlier form.

"If this virus keep going through our summer," Palese said, "I would be very concerned."

The bottom line is that while this flu is certainly spreading worldwide, and while it could mutate into something extremely lethal, right now it is fairly mild.

Perfect timing for H1N1 to strike us, I must say, when we're still fighting dengue and chikungunya. Let's hope H1N1 stays this mild... Or mutates and kills itself.

Well so far it doesn't seem to be that hard to contain, actually. I honestly think that we've kinda overreacted to it. Sure, it may me infectious, but it doesn't seem to be as deadly as they say.

True, but the flu virus mutates very easily. It could become more deadly rather suddenly. Still best to avoid catching the virus... But alas, that's easier said than done since it is an air-borne virus.

Seasonal flu kills 588 Singaporeans a year. I'd think that is pretty nasty, even if the victims are probably mostly either the very old or the very young.

actually, women are stronger, their life expectancies are longer then men in general. because most men work, get stressed, smoke, and drive

i only can think of one thing which won't be happening...QUARANTINE

if it were to happen it would be perfect timing since i am in the army.

The hospital staff will have to work long hours from now..it had to come sooner and finally it came. Expect sales of protection masks to rise. Hopefully this won't blow up into something catastrophic.
