im planning to send my guitar for a set up soon. fix the intonation chg string. any one haf any idea hw much this will cost? and which shop does this? thx

total set ups will cost u around $50,( neck adjustment, intonation, repolish frets, conditioning of fret board, change strings and strings height adjustment)

Do they really give fret polish and fretboard conditioning services ? It is included in a 'guitar set-up' ?

i dun think so the 2 other services are included in the set ups but my fren went to him for guitar servicing and the guy did everything perfect

he does a really good job and trust me...he does not compromise perfection

It's all relative, on one's expectation. Let's stick to local.

I have seen people who feel that even a low $20 for an experienced tech to do a basic setup as too high. (ie. spring tension, saddle action, truss rod adjustment, re-string and simple cloth cleaning service). Maybe to them $5 is fair.

There are others who would pay $80 to do the same thing without batting an eye.

Same goes for a $150 or $300 or $400 setup (different level of service and experience).

End of day, you must be happy and willing to pay for what you expect to get.

+1. Yeah, Malcolm's really good. You get to witness and learn how he sets your guitar up, which matters a lot to me. Worth the time, effort and money.

By the way, mikemann, anywhere you can recommend for a decent setup at a fair price? string action/height, tension, intonation etc... Or is it possible to have a good setup just by doing it yourself according to guidebooks?

Good setup, you must have good technical skills and knowledge. Experience plays a very important role too.

Shops for setup are mainly guitar shops themselves. Now the highest concentration are found in excelsior/penisular area, with davis, luther, guitar77, guitar connection, dan, maestro...

Next is bras basah. Sweelee, ranking, guitar workshop...

Then you have ParkLane area. Sinamex, all music, novelty...

Not to forget. sweelee sims, yamaha combo, jamming studios, private techs...etc
