guitar pedal collectors ( some DS-1 content )

yamaha 80s pedals is the mojo. Those can make up a small piece of this big thing!

though the ibanez saya its an overdrive, it sounds more like an distortion, very bassy & made by maxon..

yup, from wat i know, its made between 1977-1979. before the tubescreamer was out, and it was modeled after the overdrive.

more info on the Boss DS-1 here

Do you have a "username" and "password" I can use to access the link? I have a MIJ DS-1 version "et-28f" and I'm curious to know the difference between this version and the previous ones. Has anyone had the chance to do an A/B between the two? I've owned two MIJ DS-1s (not sure what the version was for the first DS-1 I had), a MIJ DS-2 and a MIT DS-2. Right now, I just own a MIJ DS-1 and a MIT DS-1 and I can definitely hear the difference between the two.. I like the MIJ one much better; the analog circuit gives it a much warmer tone. I don't have the DS-2 anymore to do an A/B comparison, but from what I can remember, the DS-1 has a better tone than the DS-2, when in normal mode (which I think is supposed to be the same as the DS-1).

Dude... why you create account to revive a 5 year old thread.
Holy revival.
But hope you get your answers hahha

Nevermind my post; I found the answer on the Bossarea Forum. Here's the deal:

"I had a look at the schematic as well as my oldest two DS-1s (071700 and one without serial) and found that the DS-1s with momentary LED will have a PCB marked ET-28C. ET-28E started from serial 9000. My 071700 has the ET-28E board while the other one has the ET-28F board. Based on component codes, I estimate that my serial number-less DS-1 should have serial 10xx00 (All date codes in the 07 are 1D, all date codes in the other are 1G).

There are two changes between ET-28E and ET-28F:

  • The protection diode, D1, has moved. Circuit-wise it's still in the same place but it's been relocated on the board.
  • The LED driver transistor Q9 along with D9 and R34 has been removed.

None of the changes will affect the sound of the pedal."

everytime i see this pic im always blown by how cool it is!!

look at how badass it is! boo-ya!

who has this here???

i used to see it on yahoo japan auction site for this. The pic was taken from there

mr misse has the phaser from this series of single stomp box. The phaser is one fierce pedal, on extreme setting, it will self oscillate, making high frequency squealing sound. It used to make misse doggie howling and barking crazy when we tweaked and play around with the pedal.

the self oscillation part was interesting as theres not much phaser around which goes into that territory. Delay oscillation is common, coming from a phaser, its something else. The phaser is working fine though at normal setting, but the phasing effect is pretty generic. Only when set to extreme, thats where the fun start.

on those yamaha stompboxes, during the same era, theres also another company (pearl)which did similar style pedals (exterior also look similar) with the ability to combine into a big multiefx set up.

Yeah, I'm made in the late 70s and I have 2 knobs. Plus I get stepped on a lot too.

Which knob control was left out (did it originally just have volume and distortion)? I've been searching google to find a picture of the early DS-1 w/ two knobs, but haven't had any luck.. I'm just curious about what it looked like.

That is one expensive tubescreamer. I have one too and it's definitely one sweet pedal. I like the grittiness from this one compared to my previous TS 808. I think the box looks really cool.

nice score.

it's the next best thing besides the true vintage TS9. I have ab them, really really up there with the real thing.
