Guitar or the ukulele?

Hey people, I'm planning to pick up either the guitar or the ukulele. But I'm torn between the 2. Like both has got its pros and cons, I like the sounds of both of them. I'm a total newb to guitars and stuff, so which will be umm easier to pick up? And how much does a guitar or a ukulele cost? I'm planning to get a normal one first, to experiment and get my feel right before I advance on a better instrument. Is there anywhere here in Singapore that sells ukuleles besides the internet? Woah that's a lot of questions. Thanks in advance!

Ukelele. That's unique. And a good topic to start of to break any ice. I would personally think that you are a cooler person if you tell me you play the ukelele than if you tell me you play guitar. Heck, I would even go so far to ask you to join my band, heh.

yep maybe you're right. it's the uniqueness. cos playing the guitar is common these days.

yea I think I'd most prolly pick a ukulele, absolutely LOVE how it sounds! haha and main factor is it's so much easier to carry around than a guitar. Any idea where I can get my hands on a ukulele with a decent price, since I'm just starting out, will get a better (read: more expensive) one when I'm getting better. TIA!

edit: oh man I found Davis Guitars website and I saw a a ukelele in Greg Bennett's guitars! she's a beauty!!! anyone knows how much it's gonna set me back at? like an estimate? cus' i won't be comin back to singapore until a week or two later.

oh really?? awesomeee! where's umm this davis shop located? supa dupa many thanks in advance!

The Davis Guitar website and the Davis mentioned by Vick are one and the same. Location and contact number is available on the home page for your convenience to contact them directly to ask about the price.

But a word of caution, it's going to be inconvenient to learn to play ukulele if you have no teacher. Cos there are generally fewer websites which teach you how to play ukulele than the guitar. And also harder to find tabs for ukulele and prob have to write tabs yourself...

yeah that's a concern for people like me starting out on the ukulele and ukulele teachers are really hard to come by over in singapore. but I've a couple of friends who play the ukulele (hence, my first contact with this BEAUTIFUL instrument), lol though lessons will be conducted through the webcam. thanks for your advice bill ;)

Hey hope this reply is not too late. There is a new setup in SG that brought in Kala Brand ukuleles at very reasonable prices. Best thing is you don't have to buy online and not know how it feels like before buying. They are operating from a home office now so you need to email before going down. The shop is located near Little India. Contact is glyn.simon@gmail.com. Good luck :D

Ukulele is better than Guitar

Ukulele is easier to learn than guitar. It is smaller and is within reach for tiny fingers. It's only 4 strings compared to the guitar which has 6 strings.

In just a few lessons you can play songs, when you learn it from Richard Chong, the Ukulele coach. Details at http://www.ukulele.sg

Oh yes, Richard Chong sells ukulele too.
