Dunno if this is the right section to post this but do you guys think that guitar magazines are worth the money? And was wondering if Total guitars are worth the $22 because this month's issue caught my attention but $22 seems too expensive for a magazine..

if it really caught your attention then just buy lah. not like you will buy every month, right? so pamper yourself for this time la haha, some things in magazines may inspired one to play more. haha I bought the guitarworld march 09 with led zeppelin on the cover.. for 11.50bucks.

lol ok.But total guitars good anot?Cos I think only the tips from Slash caught my attention lol.

didn't buy though. but if you just buy the magazine for slash's column.. like quite not worth.. imo la.. I thought the thing which caught your attention is something which is the focus of this month's issue... lol.

Thats why asking if the other columns inside are useful..the cd includes some lessons on songs i like though.I guess I should just buy this month's issue..any other guitar magazines to recommend?Oh and any other stores distributes total guitar other than HMV?Cos HMV is pretty far..would prefer stores in the North..thanks :D

Pageone at Vivo City, maybe? Otherwise, MPH, Harris and Times bookstores carry lots of guitar magazines. If you don't feel like buying, then just browse through the part you wanna read, if it's opened. If it's shrink wrapped, oh well. 8)

i got quite a stack of guitar world magazines. i try not to buy those with CDs unless its really interesting to me.

Oo ok.Bought Total Guitar today,I think next month gonna try another guitar mag.Any recommendations?

i kinda like Total Guitar. i usually learn a thing or two from each issue. and they have free stuff at times too:mrgreen: i've obtained a sweatband, pick holder, scale book and some other stuff just from TG. the video lessons on the disc are pretty cool too. i remember watching a Paul Gilbert video lesson and i got mesmerized by his fingers. hahaha

I like both Guitar World and Total Guitar, but Total Guitar looks like more of a music magazine rather than a guitar magazine sometimes, due to its extensive coverage of bands and albums. On the other hand, it makes for a much more interesting read sometimes compared to Guitar World as that focuses much more on techniques and gear. They both have their merits and excellent lessons, and also bear in mind that Guitar World is a US publication and Total Guitar is from the UK, so the coverage tends to be a little different.

So Guitar World focuses more on techniques?Where can I get them?Don't wanna travel down to Gramophone/HMV just to get guitar magazines unless necessary. Thanks :)

Alright thanks, shall try my luck at the popular near my house. Will probably get next month's issue..

you can get them even at those mama papa shop that sell mags.bought from them before.

buy guitarist magazine. good reviews and everything. and there is a section at the back where they teach u stuff. im hooked on the magazine. its awesome.

I believe different guitar mags cater to different demographic or "crowd"..

- Total Guitar is more Metal-centric, they tend to feature lots of "heavier" bands new and old. Popular music for the month will be transcribed, with backings on a CD.
- Guitar Technique as the title suggests features lots of techniques/lessons. Comes with CDs or DVDs.
- Guitar Player (my fav) is very "open" to lots of different music genres, opened my mind, ears and eyes to lots of stuff. Their lesson section is really "ear-opener". And their reviews re spot-on..
- Guitar World is a bit like Guitar Player, but tend to cater to more rock/metal/heavier stuff. each issue have a number of songs transcribed.
- Guitar World DVD is a lesson only version of Guitar World. Its more like a DVD instructional DVDs..
- Guitarist is "all-rounder", and usually have really in-depth reviews, love their "Long Termers" review section where a chosen instrument is being reviewed for a few issues (months). A reviewer keeps the guitar/efx/etc for a long period and uses it frequently, and their "findings" are noted.. Valuable..

Sometimes i have a number of those mags for sale.. Example: http://soft.com.sg/forum/guitar-misc-buy-sell/110517-wts-lot-mint-unread-guitar-metal-mags-dvd.html
