Guitar Brands, Do they really matter??

Gentlemen, Gibson isn't expensive for its binding, pups, wood, tops, what not. Its the BRAND. Thats it.

Face it, you can get hand crafted customs for the price of a Gibson and that would even exceed the quality of the gibson.

But if you were to insist on playing Gibsons, thats fine. No problems. it don't make you an lesser a player than that one playing a Fender. Its a matter of taste. Like I can't stand thick, round necks like those on Gibsons and Fenders. I prefer flat thin necks ala Ibanez.

In anycase, I believe the brands matter because brands are like seals of quality. If its a samick, no doubt, you can play well on it but the work quality and materials used WILL be of lesser quality. You get a John Suhr guitar, you know and everyone knows, that guitar will play and sound like a dream. And of course, the line blurs when you talk about budget guitars like the Ibanez Gio series and Gibson epiphones because the budget constraints on those will affect the workmanship and quality.

actually, its cause of the binding on the les pauls? ...

well..i believe IMO, every model is made for a reason/difference. Standards and Cusoms are made for a reason too. they cant be the same guitar, that's why some players like the standards while some like the classics and so on. Gibson wont be stupid enough to make it all the same and just name it differently for the sake of naming it don't they.

There's bound to be difference which i don't know as i have not even touch a gibson b4 honestly.

hmm...so from what you said, there's no difference, i suppose you have tried and played a lespaul before? which explains ur stand on the guitars?
do you mind enlighting me and the others who is still unaware too?

+1

Honestly ive YET to touch a gibson lespaul standard and studio.

But im sure they will have difference in them, considering their price gap.

And yeah, spikes u tried them before?

To me brand don't make a difference. At the end of the day it's the playability and sound you like that is most important.

In Singapore, we are still reliant on brand because our market is small and we are not exposed to alot of other guitars. There are actually alot of axes out there that cost a fraction but is just as good or event better. Just like what ShredCow said.

Back to Gibson LP and Epi. The new Epi are really not close to a Gibson's quality. It's OK for the price since it's cheap. But no way to match a real Gibson.

BUT... Find a vintage Epiphone made in Japan (the new ones are Korean) and it can probably come close to a real Gibson.

AND... If you are willing to step out of the paradigm of brand names. Try out LP copy brands like Burny, Tokai, Orville etc. It's really very good stuff (I tried them and compared with the real Gibson). In my opinion, some (not all) of them can be as good as a Gibson, if not better.

It's just my opinion. Again, end of the day, it is really what you like that is most important.

Haha anything just say, i'll whack him for you

and so may I pose this question -

You'd rather be in an expensive guitar, dressed like your idol but play like
f@*K....
then
having a squire with a DS1(hmmm sounds familiar ley) and plays awesome....
???

The guitarist from Project Liquid used to have a cheap guitar but he changed his pickups and uses a Zoom 606 or 707 effect. and what do you get? Tom Morello made in Singapore....
:prayer:

Hi Newbie,

Do you know what models are those in Yamaha and what's the price?

Yes! And they are super expensive!

Ship in from ishibashi abt 700+.

Yamaha = 900. All their new burnys are 900 bucks.

RLG-45. / RLG-45JS. / RLC-45.

but, they dont have my model. RLG-45Z. lol. Z's with the zebra pickup i think.

Theirs are just the normal one, with the metal covering.

hey newbie, thanks for the info. oh... ishibashi abt 700+ does that include shipping and GST? where did you get yours?

Do you know if RLG-45. / RLG-45JS. / RLC-45 in Yamaha are made in Japan / Korea / China?

I would rather play good and have a good axe. Good guitars never come cheap and you can only do so much with a lousy guitar.

Haha i was lucky. I got mine 2nd and. 500 only. Mint condition. Excellent steal =X

If im not wrong made in korea. Mines jap i think, well tts what the booklet says. Lol.

An expensive guitar will motivate you to be a better player. Even if you suck initially.
It will definitely help you to develop and sustain your passion when you know you're playing the same guitar as your guitar heroes

i feel that my epiphone les paul has added that extra passion for me to want to play, and to want to play well, and i have made tremendous progress on the lespaul as compared to my old samick strat in the past.

The brandname helps you in the mind, not in the hands.

haha, and so people goes on discriminating fenders, saying its shape is retro, too ordinary, then japanese, mexican strats are lousy, quote from someone: highways aren't the pure americans, therefore it sucks, and i'd only buy a pure american series: sounds familiar anyone here?

Spike, i dun understand u man.. Since when do people discriminate fenders in this forum???!!! I am personally in the stratocaster, telecaster and RGs camp.

About the highway one, its a fact that the americans themselve dun consider it a real american strat. Go other forums and check it out. With the money i pay for the highway, i rather get a jap strat. The highway one is just a strat shamelessly have the made in USA snob...

And i think jap strats are of very high quality and workmanship. The koreans one suprisingly too. But i beg to differ for the Mex strat. I think its really inferior...

Lol

Spikes: Ultimately, its about the player.

Anyone can have Gibson, anyone can have Fenders, PRS, ESPs.

If you got no skills, no matter what guitars you have, what brand you own, you will become a bigger laughing stock.

Agree everyone? Brand will matter to some extent, in terms of quality control. And its the "mind" thingy, a Gibson will definitely sound different from an Epiphone LP and will definitely play better. Which is not necessarily true.

Lol dude, who cares about "ur guitar sucks".

HAHAHA SHOW THEM THE CHOPS!

Ive got friends saying, "Squire cannot make it lah, why buy squire? I got a "REAL" Strat man, FENDER".

hurhur. "REAL" he says. Dhalif! We need u! Squire representative. HAHAHAHA
