Gentlemen, Gibson isn't expensive for its binding, pups, wood, tops, what not. Its the BRAND. Thats it.
Face it, you can get hand crafted customs for the price of a Gibson and that would even exceed the quality of the gibson.
But if you were to insist on playing Gibsons, thats fine. No problems. it don't make you an lesser a player than that one playing a Fender. Its a matter of taste. Like I can't stand thick, round necks like those on Gibsons and Fenders. I prefer flat thin necks ala Ibanez.
In anycase, I believe the brands matter because brands are like seals of quality. If its a samick, no doubt, you can play well on it but the work quality and materials used WILL be of lesser quality. You get a John Suhr guitar, you know and everyone knows, that guitar will play and sound like a dream. And of course, the line blurs when you talk about budget guitars like the Ibanez Gio series and Gibson epiphones because the budget constraints on those will affect the workmanship and quality.
