Green Day-inspired Punk Rocker wants to ROCK!

SmFizz, don't give advice that is inaccurate. NOTHING is more full and heavenly sounding than a nice tube amp overdriven.

Anyway, I started off on a starter pack. I would advise you NOT to go down the same route. Buy a 2nd hand Epiphone Les Paul on soft, a roland cube 20x amp or sth in similar vein. That should cover you decently.

if you really want a pedal, don't buy a stock DS1. Its harshy, trebly and noisy. If you want to get a DS1, get one that's been modified. Common mods would be like Robert Keeley, Beez, Monte Allums so on and so forth.

IMO you can stick to the amp distortion for now.

Smfzz , if you are a beginner why are you giving advise to other beginners as well. No offence but don't you think that you are more of a hindrance than any help at all.:)

alright people. chill. i think he gets the point. i think smfizz here was referring to those cheap beginner amps which usually give too little or weak distortion. IMO, "suckiness" and "heaven" is subjective. for example, if people consider blues music to be "heaven", will you rip on them the way you ripped on smfizz? and, its just a piece of advice people. the TS can choose to ignore it or to listen to it. Just because Smfizz gave some wrong advice, you're ripping on him like a bunch of vultures. Let's have peace in this forum people.

lolz nabeel makes everything alright once again haha :D

anyway seriously guys, i make one mistake and u guys make like 2 pages of flaming?

because you shouldn't be giving advise , you should be taking it. So stop saying anything and people will stop flaming you.

hey man just cos of one little mistake in his advice, you guys are flaming him? its just a mistake. he's human too. read my post above ^^

We're not flaming him the first place, people are just telling him to stop giving advise. Read my post above and comprehend it for a change. There is not harm in making mistakes but why make any when you can avoid them by simply not giving advise when he himself doesn't know anything?

Does he want attention ? I doubt so . So what do you have against us telling him not to give others wrong advise. How is that wrong?

look, i dont have anything against u guys telling me off. I even admit that im wrong. If u guys would have clearly pointed out my mistake in the previous pages, i would just hav corrected it. Life goes on. but here we are, 2-3 pgs later and we're still on the same topic. i myself dont wanna spend anymore time on this thread.

so lets clear this once and for all. Im wrong, and a noob guitarist. I should take advice, not give advice. Ok?

what i have against you is that you're not simply asking him to stop giving advice. some people are also ridiculing him. example- hahahahahaha go learn how to play guitar first before giving advice.

now, was that laugh really needed? the person could have just said, look, no offence, but i think you should read up and learn more before commenting. it's that simple.

anyways, i've decided not to post on this anymore. good luck to everyone on their respective journies to guitar stardom.

peace out.

Smfizz - Great to hear that, I'm so proud of you for acknowledging that fact.

Nabeel - You don't make any sense and yeah of course that hahahahaha was needed, cause thats how bad his advise was. Don't be a soccer mom and just play Guitar haha and if you think that you can make it as a rockstar or guitar star whatever it is that amuses you. Go ahead and be my guest but unfortunately our Singaporean culture doesn't permit that cause you'll still have to get a day job.

this guy really reminds me of my past... haha!! sure green day do rock!! haha!! dun need a guitar like billie joe.. okok.. basically u dun need any schools.. haha!! try to be self-taught... that'll help u become more discipline... get an entry level kind of guitar either acoustic or electric, whichever within ur budget.. get hold of the guitar.. learn every technique(youtube does help you at time.. hehe!)... when u get used to it, then u can learn some basic chords and im sure able to jam out some songs... if you become more professional, u can study on music theory and create ur originals... its either u prefer..

remember, determination counts.. good luck hehe! ((:

Haha, you were once a Green Day wannabe too?Green Day is just so awesome that everyone wants to be like them...THEYGOTHATTHINGINSIDETHEM!!!:p:p:p

With around $600. You can get a $400 Epiphone Les Paul STANDARD Plus second hand here on soft. These are much better and way cheaper than the more EXPENSIVE Gibsons. Some other brands at lower price points actually have better workmanship than Gibson. Notable brands are Edwards or Grassroots.

Not being a Gibson fan boy, which I am not.

But find me one piece that I can hear with my hears and feel with my hands, that what you describe is true, I'll gladly pay you the amount that the more expensive gibson cost for that epiphone.

I got myself in a rut it seems. Goodness knows what I was thinking.

I meant to say that its of a better value from a starters point of view.

*facepalm*

Thats regarding Epiphone.

Edwards, on the other hand, has some great LP models that totally blew some Gibsons I've tried away.

I've finally decided,but need confirmations/advice:
I'm going to get an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus and a Roland Cube 20x
If this set-up's ok,do you guys feel that I need to change/include anything else?For example,change the pick-ups or something...maybe get a pedal?

(Note: Anyone can give me any details about a Fernandes Strat? It seems like the only issue here regardless of brands is the pick-up (single/humbucker) and the wood that makes up the body.)

you need cables. and picks. and tuner. I doubt you need to change the pickups... at least not yet. roland cube got plenty of effects so you do not need pedals yet...

Mmmm...any recommendations on cables/picks/tuners?I'm supposing not that they affect the guitar's play...?

well, they are all about the same. depends on ur budget. maybe those cheap tuners will give inaccurate tuning and the thickness of the pick also affects the sound. correct me if i am wrong
