Gibson sticky neck

My few months all gibson les paul studio had this persistent sticky neck that keeps disrupting my playing ( like sliding). Anyone know what i can do with it?

I googled and found out its the lacquer problem...

ooo, hows the end result? I dont think i would do it myself ( i suck in handicrafts or diys), should i send it to shop for them to sand it down? Or should i wait for it to get " less sticky"?

you wont end up getting huge scratches on it so dont worry haha.

i only did this for 10 minutes and can feel the neck getting less sticky. and you got to make sure the smooth feel is constant throughout the neck.

you could use some thinner to (literally) thin down the lacquer. the method removes paint very slowly so its quite safe. However, you need to be more careful if the neck is painted because it might eat into the coloured paint (unless you want to strip it to bare wood and oil finish it). specify what you intend to do and I will give you more advice from there.

use a lil mild soapy water and wipe down first.. or u can lighter fluid on a cloth.. naphtha is good for your whole guitar.

not exactly the best way, but works, use fine grit sand paper and stroke it awhile, try to sand the thing lenght wise and not along it's circumfence or next time will regret it for sure.

I also had this problem and it fixed itself, you could try talcum powder on your hands or something similar

Just use the Dunlop guitar polish on the neck every time it gets sticky.
It'll be silky smooth.

My guitar necks don't get sticky on their own, so I suspect it has something
to do with our moist palms or something..

come on man, its laquer. its part of the nice look for the guitar and part and parcel of the finishing. don't remove it. just try to accomodate and play along with it.

Gr3y: Extra Virgin Olive Oil better! healthier

No one mentioned using KY?
Lube It Baby!!
hehehe
;)

I got a couple of high lacquered neck guitars but not so problematic untill have to sand/wipe/grease/polish and all. It's just a characteristic of the guitar. Something that can get used to.

i've taken very fine 2000 grit sandpaper and very lightly wet-sanded the back of my '74 SG before...no harm done but of cos plays smoother.

im not the first and i definitely wont be the last person to keep doing this on gibson necks...
its the best solution compared to everything else out there...lubricants or whatever crap.
