Gibson prices and quality

Hi all,

Wonder if any of you out there knows how much is a new Gibson LP Standard after discount in Swee Lee or any other shop?

Then roughly how much will a 2nd hand one cost? I know there is alot of factors like age, condition etc, but just quote base on average.

Also, we always hear people mentioning that Gibson's quality has dropped in recent years. But can anyone be a little bit more specific about roughly when did this drop in quality actually started - which year that is?

Thanks!

the definite Gibson price reference: 63367886

i was scouting for the LP prices too, but the ones in the bras basah (swee lee) showroom, has no price tags on them yet, the prices have yet to be released as these are the new models just in. these are some of the models i tried:

LP Std 50s neck

LP Std 60s neck

LP Classic

approx list price:
LP Std- $4,400
LP Classic: $3,800

no idea when the Gibson quality dipped, to me, they have been dipping all the while but the definite thing is, the 03 models had weak headstocks.

i think the classic seems like a good choice...tried my friend's and it sounded awesome...then again...i dont really have a point of reference.

but uncovered hbs are the way to go 8)

thanks subversion.

what is the diff between 50's and 60's neck. one is slimmer right? but which one?

it seems like i have been quoted a couple of times an average of $2500 for a 2nd Gib LP Standard. is this price fair?

i will only pay $2,500 for a used LP Std based on its condition. it doesn't command this price tag just because it's an LP Std.

the 60s LP Std sports a 'slim taper' neck, which is really another version of a thick LP neck. the taper only applies till the 12th fret, beyond that, the dimensions resume its traditional fat profile.

i've this to say about the 2005 batch of LPs which are here:

*LP Std- 50s/ 60s necks gives the player a fair choice of playability. the humbucker has somehow been a little polished, nice but still can do better with more definition.

*LP Classic- has gotten more massive. the pickups have somehow lost a little clarity; something to do with the weight. the best LP Classic i played, was the Classic Plus.

then again, when i was set to buy it, on that fateful day, the PRS McCarty crossed my path...

is it true that the 59 plays best more than the other LP? does the r9 reflect that?

59 is a good year in guitar construction, Gibson-wise. the guitars in this year mostly had the weight right, so they sound real sweet. the R9 is an attempt to recreate this glory but punters have deemed it to be a little over-hyped. in any case, if it's good, then it's good.

who needs a gibson lp when the PRS SINGLECUTS ARE BACK!!!

i'm an ardent PRS fan but the singlecut isn't about throwing off the Gibson LP- nope. the singlecuts can never re-create that signature LP low-end chunk. PRS is about clarity & playability.
