Yes, and it may strike many people as absurd as well when PRSH stated that something as little as not having plating of the hardware which are in contact with the strings will have quite an impact on tone. Apparently David Grissom thinks so too, and his new signature model is thus based on that.
So far fetch ideas do indeed have credibility too!

People are saying I bash Gibson because I say:
1. They have lousy QC
2. Their aim is to maximise profits and production quota at the expense of their QC
3. They sell by their brand name Gibson
4. They are no longer the same company in the 50s which took care of their guitars
5. The R9s do not have the correct specs as the '59 burst
6. Guitars with same type of but higher quality build, material, construction albeit slightly altered body shape can outdo an R9 in achieving that classic Les Paul tone, since totally different guitars such as a tele can even sound like a Les Paul.
7. PRS has better QC than Gibson
8. Gibson is no longer the market standard, other companies such as PRS set the bars so high for a factory mass produced guitar that Fender and Gibson are playing catchup.
Quick - This was the root reason for flaming me. Why does no one have enough balls to counter it? Is there no one with sufficient justification for flaming me based on what I've said about Gibson now?

I will agree - yes, it is possible to get good tones from such a guitar... however, the AT model and JS series - I would think they are guitars that do sound good as in, if I regard an RG as bland sounding, I would think the 2 models would offer richer tones.
Both don't have extremely wizard-thin necks...
The AT has a very nice trem.=, not a floyd rose...
The JS utilises a traditional block joint with heel cutaway - no recessed neck screws too, traditional neck plate.

and I firmly believe one must share what they have experienced. That's where the whole forum thing comes into play. That's why I love to have "discussions" like this... you never know what minor detail you have missed out, or if someone else has tried something before and has advice for you or anything lah...
So, that said - eh, go buy and try those saddles leh. Or just have a word with Malcolm... he's one of those whom I would trust for opinions on tone because he will use absolute terms (words) if he is very sure what's happening (e.g. "Its brighter sounding")
E.g. I changed out the Ibanez Edge out of my Ibanez Sabre before... to a Gotoh Floyd. The difference in tone is... nothing short of astounding. I hear it acoustically, on clean and on drive... made me realise how "dead" sounding the ibanez edge is... which can be cool to some, but not for me...
